this is the thread to discuss the 2018 congressional and senate elections on one side we have the republican party, "the party of lincoln". they made a retard president and will likely be responsible for more deaths than any political party since the National Socialist German Workers Party. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80x7svyKR1Q on the other side we have the democrats, mostly a collection of bought and paid for assholes who represent a different set of rich people from the republicans. genereally more sane and better at maintaining our capitalist empire. extremely bad at getting the power to do that though polls indicate the democrats will probably win the house and could even win the senate. thanks and enjoy the thread, Sheng-Ji Yang has issued a correction as of 02:02 on Jan 5, 2018 |

I disagree that it's impossible to takeover the party from within to push it left, just very difficult and compromising, and it requires institutions and movements outside of it threatening it, including a leftist third party. If they successfully hold off the Bernie wing of the party the only choice will be a third party

At least there is potential in a two party system for a more radical shift - Trump taking over the GOP, or say a Bernie takeover of the dems. A multiparty parliamentary system totally guarantees a centrist path until it utterly fails and collapses.

AFancyQuestionMark posted:There is no magic system of government that's going to nullify real strong trends in the attitudes and culture of the population itself, without also being autocratic. Even then, as strongman dictator/council of elders/vanguard party you still need to pay attention to the whims of the larger population, or at least some significant segments of it. You can't pull full communism out of thin air and expect everyone to go along with it. Yeah jiggering with the mechanisms of bourgeois democracy ultimately results in little difference, the only solution is it's destruction. Anyways, about those midterms,
