Why was the other one called Prometheus, and did they ever join the alien covenant

it's called prometheus because the framing story is about how human life began when aliens brought their advanced technology to earth.

i don't know why the other one is called covenant.

You are an odd fellow, but I must say... you throw a swell shindig.

So are there a bunch of angry YouTubers ranting about Prometheus or something? I know it's not a masterpiece or anything but I never heard anyone relentlessly hating it until recently. I thought it was good and I thought people thought it was good.

Astronauts and scientists are known for being the biggest idiots in society. I don't want to derail with Aliens chat but after being bewildered with everyone removing their helmets in Prometheus I almost laughed in Covenent when they land on an alien planet and exit the lander and trudge through a swamp with no ppe.

Alien movies are fundamentally horror slasher movies, and that kind of movie doesn't work if everybody is smart and careful. You just have to accept that the characters aren't going to do the common sense thing (don't let Kane back on the ship, take off and nuke the entire site from orbit, leave your helmets on and don't tease the alien space snake) because that's how it's got to be for the story to work.

Horror and slasher movies work better when everybody's reasonably competent.

Anecdotal, but I pretty much only ever heard people referring to Prometheus negatively to the point that those who didn't did so from a "now I know you all hate it, buuuuuut" posture.

I'm pretty sure a good half of them in prometheus were supposed to be dedicated, passionate and competent. like the lead scientist basically considered the mission a religious pilgrimage. Not to mention the owner of the goddamn company was on that ship, CEOs tend to care about surrounding themselves with the best even if they don't care about the rest of their business

The movie was about answering the profound question of your creation only to discover your makers were rear end in a top hat dumbasses messing around with forces they don't understand. The humans with the giant aliens and David with his own father and the other humans. It's about the horror of all of creation being dumbassery all the way down.
