https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkRRQ9L82nE I'm not a military guy so I don't know if any of these drops they are showing off in their military parade are any good. I assume some of it must be useful. The sneakers that some of the infantry guys are wearing seem more comfy than boots.

Ardennes posted:Nuclear power plant Yeah I was poking fun at you. The other nuclear plant, Koeberg, is actually quite close to me. It's a nice area to visit too. The whole Koeberg history is nicely emblematic of Africa as well. The plant was built by colonisers. When the ANC took power and ended apartheid, a large number of technicians left Eskom rather than work with and train black people. They were even given the chance to retire with pay as an easy exit, and many of them "honourable" decided they'd rather quit than take a black man's money. They'll tell you that story with pride. Eskom eventually contracted a French firm, Framatone, to maintain and upgrade the plant with Eskom staff. Someone left a bolt inside a reactor and damaged the plant. The south African technicians were interrogated with lie detector tests. The French were not. It's now common consensus that the French did it. Further the French company set up a really good contract so that they get paid if there are any delays. Which they knew there would be given that there isn't enough electricity generation for the whole country and the Koeberg plant is load bearing and can't just be shut down for repairs easily. So colonisers keep colonising. Anyway, elections are in less than a month. If you want fun updates and info on the parties, check out DarrenCampher on twitter or tiktok.

If I had the time and energy (I've caught kindergarten plague AGAIN) I'd make a compendium of African and Latin American leaders saying analogous things. I know the response of most would be "well they've been paid off!!!" But still.

after a flurry of activity early this spring, the NEOM youtube channel hasn't updated at all since the bad press about scaling back came out another interesting channel I follow is https://www.youtube.com/@publicinvestmentfund/videos the videos never get that many views. it's way way more dry and less fun to post about, but in the "FT is the paper where the capitalists say the quiet part out loud" vein, this channel is good for learning about the priorities for the kingdom
