Ostapenko through!

General thoughts:

-Kerber looked solid at Sydney, it would be great if she did well
-Of people who haven't won a slam yet, Svitolina looks the best without a doubt lol
-Interested to see how Keys has adjusted after falling apart at the US Open
-I still don't think Wozniacki will ever win a slam LOL

-Can Sascha Zverev finally make it past Week 1? I'm skeptical but we'll see
-Of all the men returning from injuries, I have the most faith in Wawrinka lol

History question: Based on her performance last year, it still blows my mind that Halep managed to end the year at World #1. Has any player ever ended #1 in a year when they also lost in the first round of a grand slam? I know in the '70s Jimmy Connors ended #1 despite not playing the French, but that's all I've got.

That sounds worse than it is. The women's side of the US Open was a complete disaster.

Stephens has never been good, Venus is a million years old who couldn't beat a woman who is injured every five minutes and Coco is overhyped.

Oh absolutely, I meant it more as a comment on the quality of the US Open seminfinals than anything else

RIP Milos. Getting hyped for Nole

I’m starting to think that after winning 2012 Wimbledon Federer realized the only thing that could enhance his GOAT status was a glorious comeback, so he tried to tank 2013-2016 but still managed to get to it finals in spite of himself.

Same. She seems more with it mentally than in the past. The Kerber match was exhausting I’m sure but on balance I wonder if it helped her get in the zone

Yeah, I believe he’s already mentioned in interviews that he’s skipping clay again this year. Makes complete sense. But if the French draw is wide open...

The past year has been so crazy I’ll believe anything is possible

But don’t believe poo poo I say. Here’s my first post from this thread:

It's a little strange that the roof is closed. It wasn't for the women's final. Is the temperature that much higher today?

I think Mac just said it was 107 with humidity, which is comparable or even better than last week when they kept it open. I know they said earlier it’s in the low 70s with the roof

Pardon my ignorance but why would they ever keep the roof open when it's over 100f?
