there shall be no multipurpose controls involved in the operation of a car's engine, transmission, lighting, wiper, climate control, seat positioning, or audio system Anything else, sure, geek it up

there is a roughly 15-20 year window of acceptable bmws, dont like, rent a modern 4 series and expect it to have anywhere as nearly a good experience as like a 1990 3-series

e30's had great visibility and rewarded spirited application of gas pedal, but they had dumb engine selections across the board and if you want a clean one right now you are spending $15k plus another 4-6 grand a year meanwhile, there was no 1997 M5 because my 540 was judged fast enough then BMW wanted to sell more variable valve timing engines so they brought it back the next year as much as i love the 5 though, my 95 325 was a much better handler. had the m3 pumpkin and big staggered wheels. push it to the limiiiiiiit

these car computers would be way cooler if they had a screen that showed you the output from obd2, like, oil pressure and temp and afr and whatever. just a big ol screen of gauges.

I've got a 2017 GTI and its got the apple/google thing where you can just plug in your phone and it shows you a car-friendly interface, locked down to stuff you can interact with while driving. It works pretty well but it means you have to use apple maps if you have an iphone :/

I haven't been able to figure out how to search for a song on spotify (not even with voice to text) but I can scroll through and select previously played playlists.

haaaaahahahaha BMW officially is actively hostile towards its customers and is going to make CarPlay a yearly fee because gently caress you pay me for the privilege of being able to send a text message while not dying. https://www.theverge.com/2018/1/16/16897326/bmw-apple-carplay-subscription-google-alexa-detroit-auto-show-2018 some PM posted:“This allows the customer to switch devices,” he said. “A lot of people buy [CarPlay] and think it’s okay, but sometimes they stop using it or switch to Android.”
