In the first game the SP was more or less a set of linear key missions padded out with filler. Now it's key missions padded out with a substandard version of a total war map. However there are three different campaigns and that's cool.

The MP is just like first game, really bad and really dead.

It's great in singleplayer and well worth the sale price. Don't buy it for multiplayer though. Co-op exists and would be fun if you got someone to play with.

Sad but very accurate. I still loved my gimmick Ork multiplayer. I just really love ramming and being green. Single player is drat fun though I liked the smaller scale of the first game. Really want Ork campaign.

It appears the next paid DLC will launch on June 24th, 2019, which will be a Chaos Grand Campaign:

Teaser trailer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMMc890hQu0

The developers will also release at the same time a free game patch with several new game features for the campaigns. They explain some of new free features in their community update posting:

quote:

Releasing at the same time as the Chaos Campaign will be the no-less major Campaign Update. Free to all players, this update enriches every campaign with additional secondary objectives on each map, diversifying gameplay significantly.

This is further expanded by new campaign settings, letting you customise every aspect of the campaign to your needs, with massively variable difficulty. This includes larger fleets, economy options, or disabling certain features for a more narrative-focused experience. This is just scratching the surface of everything in the update, details of which will be available on release day.
Wish they would release the entire feature list now, but, guess they have their reasons not to.

There's some more info in the Steam page.

quote:

Cadia has fallen, but this is just the start of your Black Crusade. At the head of a fleet of Word Bearers, the most fervent servants of the Ruinous Powers, Malos Vrykan begins his campaign of chaos and destruction across the Aegis Occularis. His path is yours, how will you bring the galaxy to its knees?

In a brand-new Chaos Grand Campaign, experience a whole new narrative in Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2, charting your rise through the ranks of Chaos to become a true champion of the Dark Gods. New ships, unique missions, and their own campaign map mechanics make the Chaos campaign a fully-fledged upgrade to Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2.

- New Chaos grand campaign: To Serve The Dark Gods.
- Begin by conquering the key system of Chinchare and spread your influence from there
- Brand new story shows the fate of the Galaxy should Chaos dominate
- Side arcs include each other race being overrun by the Dark Gods and their minions
- Use unique map resources to summon gifts of Chaos to destroy your enemies
- Master Chaos fleets and their associated powers, upgrades, and admirals

Still, good to see that, as predicted, DLC campaign races seems to be their development plan and hopefully this does well enough to encourage it to continue.

Any RTS with low player count is like that, can't really fault the matchmaker when there's no new players to match together.

Anyways, MP is basically dominated by cheese that you automatically lose against if you don't know about them so it's extra brutal for new players. Unless you are one of the faction that usually has initiative like one of the Eldars.

the eye has it
If a match isn't totally skill mismatched or dominated by stupid gimmick fleets it's pretty fun. When 80% of games are like that though it's hard to recommend.

Organizing matches with people you know would probably work to alleviate some of it. That would require people buy the game though.

On the Steam forums one of Tindalos's producers put up more details on the free patch-version coming out at the same time:

quote:

Hey guys,

Pretty excited for this patch/DLC to be released too !

Focus (Our publisher) will increase the communication on the additionnal features in the coming weeks but here is an first overview summed up. For all campaigns (Including Imp/Nec/Tyr) you will no be able to :
- Swap vessels between fleet (Same affiliation for SM/Adm and some Chaos restrictions)
- Choose your admiral skill while leveling (The first one is determined, not the next ones). We also created few "level 4 admiral upgrades" to have more campaign effects (You will be able to choose between the extra movement point or 4 new effects as an increased hull/troop regen or better POi evolution by example for suiting best the situation)
- Revoke the admiral you don't want to play to anymore (Rather than killing him in combat..!).
- We allow to cancel completely an invasion for some battleplans.
- We also did some QOL on management options as the system panel with some additional options.

- We finally integrated former (BFGA) secondary objectives during genric missions (6 as ecorter, assination, etc...) giving campaign rewards if suceeded (Some battleplans, and extra movement point, etc...). Chaos have 4 extra more related to his specific mechanic. Even if unlocked through renown level, you will have a seconday objective in every generic battle you play (Compatible with Cruiser Clash or Domination base setting). Though autobattle will not give you anyreward if you don't play it.
- We also developed some thing we call 'superpower AI', being triggered if the AI is thriving and triggering a massive effect you have to counter or deal with quickly (Orks go Waaagh! and have doubled fleet capacity, Chaos install a Portal that increase the threat level).
Both of these new features have a bit of narration and voice acting for introduction purpose.

- At last but not at least we are currently polishing a way to set up pretty deeply the campaign parameters, for objectives used, to AI parameters, going through leadership increasement, or canceling invasion possiblity by example, you will be able to ease, harden or change the way the campaign is played. We almost think we are putting a bit too much options here but we will see what you think about it. You will not be able to change these settings once your campaign is launched (And are also thinking of an easy way of sharing the setting between players).

Note we will be in "closedbeta" in the coming days to validate, polish and balance everything with a player team and everything will be live within the end of June.

Please be aware, alonside Chaos campaign specificities (That are numerous) and this extra list (Everything of course is playable in coop), we are also finishing a new balancing phase and were still fixing some remaining bugs from base content/current live version. You can also expect some new Chaos vessels, shared for the roster and being playable in MP or the AI even if you don't buy the Chaos Campaign :-)

Hoping this answer to some of your question !

Best,

Ugo
(Tindalos's Producer)

I'm slow to play this game but may start a new campaign to try these new features if required. Sounds like welcome variety to the gameplay since the Domination was getting stale.

Tindalos posted the new game mechanics added for the upcoming Chaos Grand Campaign DLC:

https://steamcommunity.com/gid/103582791462412105/announcements/detail/1603759333257389206

The new Chaos campaign adds features, missions and abilities that involve the four main Chaos gods.

You can earn "Gifts of Chaos" points by completing secondary objectives in missions after you reach Renown Level 3, or you can offer up captured planets to each god, which causes an evolutionary penalty for developing on the offered planet.

The accumulated Gifts of Chaos points allows you to disrupt the enemy faction fleets on the Strategic map or cause invasions to selected enemy system, depending on which Chaos god you have earned points for. You can also use the gifts to purchase "Marked Fleets" that have special bonuses and abilities associated with the respective Chaos god.

I'm not clear if these new Chaos God mechanics have impact on the other faction's Grand Campaigns or not.

Welp, it appears there's another bug with the free patch: if you start any game with customized options from the new Custom Difficulty settings then the Enemy AI crews will all start at the maximum skill level of 4. I will watch and see how soon Tindalos will patch this bug, since the Difficulty Customization was supposed to be a major feature of the free patch.

Another common Chaos fleet is slaughter/carnage Nurgle fleet. Just stay within AP range and bath everyone in the cloud for damage and heal.

I quite like all the QoL features they've added. The new secondary objective and events also liven up a lot of the non-story battles. Maybe it's time to actually do a coop campagin.

In the latest patch you have to revoke the entire fleet to remove an admiral. If you want to keep any of the ships you would have to transfer them to new fleets or hire another admiral (if the spot was available) and transfer the ships, then revoke the one ship left of the remaining admiral.

If the admiral to dismiss happened to be on a high level ship you would want to buy a light cruiser, make the LC the new flag ship, then transfer out all the bigger/more experienced ships to a new fleet. The revoke the remaining LC flagship to remove the admiral.

I don't think that's the "Remove Admiral" feature players had in mind, but at least you have a way to keep any experienced ships.

Aumanor posted:

And the skill customisation only applies to the lvl 4 skills?

The developers posted that, "as you level, you will now be able to pick your Admirals’ skills. The first skill will be locked, but the rest are yours to choose."
At level 4 there are new skills added you can pick, such as, " an extra galaxy map movement point, increased troop regeneration, or improvements to the evolution of Points of Interest."

I'm not sure how these features work, yet. I'm waiting for another bug-fix patch before trying the campaign again.
