What in the world was the DoJ's rationale in appealing the decision? Too much work for temporary detainees? Too hard to track the vaccinated? Too expensive, given the money they're doling out to flood-remediation specialists as contractors overseeing the kiddy concentration camps?

It's almost certainly the same old refrain they've given other times the administration has appealed rulings that are either morally correct or in the interest of the President. It's happened multiple times, I think the first was when they appealed the decision to release the full memo about why Trump wasn't charged with obstruction and its always the same refrain about how important the rules are and how its always the DoJs job to appeal etc.

It's loving shameful that this administration can't even maintain as weak and gutless a reform as "no more horses and whips for brown people" for even the blink of an eye before regressing.

Also, its hosed up that this thread continually falls to the second page or even farther because of the lack of "news" surrounding the topic, which is a deliberate act by the administration and helped here by the dumb rule that topics need to be kept out of USPOL so the same liberals who spent a year crying crocodile tears about kids in cages don't have to be confronted with the fact that the racist geriatric they elected doesn't give a gently caress about immigrants at all.

When you post something in a specialized topic thread such as this, anyone who is interested in the topic is guaranteed to see it

That's the problem, people aren't interested. Segregating the discussion to where its conveniently ignored doesn't help that.

You should think, carefully, about why you found the story appealing, and the interests of the source from which you got the story, and why you didn't apply any scrutiny to it before sharing it here.

It's a bad story I guess and I'm deeply sorry for derailing the breakneck pace of discussion here. It resonated with my experience as an immigrant. Congrats though, you've successfully defended the needlessly cruel immigration apparatus of the United States, maybe you should think carefully about why you're interested in doing that before posting here.

Maybe instead of complaining about how liberals don't want to discuss this topic, do your drat part to improve the quality of discourse?

What discourse? There's a lack of reporting from the national press, its not a priority for the presidential administration, and this thread consistently falls back pages due to inactivity. Yeah I got owned posting a poo poo headline I saw browsing the news this morning but lets not pretend its doing a disservice to the discussion taking place since nothing had been posted to the thread in nearly a week. People are not interested in discussing this here, or nationally, and its not because I am a bad poster.

Is this worse or better than when the administration responds to judicial orders with vague language about how its DoJs defacto job to challenge those orders? Does a more detailed response to indicate that they are more entrenched or less?

What is the best proposed "smart border" security. I recall reading ideas people were proposing for US border security that involved drone fleets that would autonomously patrol the border using IR sensors to detect human heat signatures and track/ route border patrol to intercept and by analyzing the data they can make heatmaps of where the largest inflow of illegal entries occur and make purpose-based fortifications or create new Border Patrol agent outposts in those areas.

I support the idea that the border is best being as secure as possible and I mainly hear the latest updates when they're in the news cycles, but I don;t have a good pulse on the day-to-day of how plans are evolving. Does anyone have info or perspective on the "smart" style border defenses?

The answer is to allow persons the freedom of movement across the southern border that capital enjoys. An open border does not equal a completely uncontrolled border. If we could simply deal with those persons seeking to work, seeking refuge from violence, etc. It could free up the actual border security apparatus to address genuine risks. We spend significantly on border security, there are loads of personnel, we don't need drones or thermal scopes, or any silly technocratic solution. We need a political one, where the border security apparatus of the United States is actually focused on and working to address safety, as opposed to its current role of chasing down and brutalizing people we've deemed undesireable.

I posted this in CE, but here it is for this thread as well...

It's especially infuriating to see an administration who is preparing to declare COVID over and everyone going back to normal still "concerned" enough about the disease to use it as a pretense to continue dehumanizing migrants.
