If I wanted to get this, mostly to do Jedi stuff or Mandalorian stuff, which one should I get?

I watched something that said for certain things you want like 3 core sets and I just balked lol

You could also go rebels and run three squads of Clan Wren if you'd like.

Alternatively, clones get Arc troopers as a special forces choice and they're fantastic!

So lets say I go rebels, and go halvsies on the core box, and buy the max amount of Clan Wren, and a coworker goes for Imperial, what else would I need for a “full” team?

I would just assume to get whatever might be fun for an 800pt setup (which seems like a lot less units than something like GW overall for such a high # of points)

I guess I’d go for luke then for the jedi, I skimmed the others and it looks like there’s not much jedi

If you're playing Rebel, especially Mandos, then Cassian and K2SO are simply excellent choices for command slot. You probably still want a Rebel officer in there.

Edit: this is a really fun and flexible list, no jedi, but Sabine can psuedo fight like one with the darksaber.

Commanders:
- Cassian Andor (90): Offensive Push (4), Situational Awareness (2), Recon Intel (2), A280-CFE Config (10) = 108
- Rebel Officer (45): Vigilance (5), Portable Scanner (6) = 56
Operative:
- K-2SO (70): Comms Jammer (5), Jyn's SE-14 Blaster (10) = 85
- Sabine Wren (125): Situational Awareness (2), Recon Intel (2), Electro Grappling Line (5), The Darksaber (15) = 149
Corps:
- 3× Rebel Troopers (40) = 120
Special Forces:
- Clan Wren (34): Tristan Wren (38), Ursa Wren (38), Situational Awareness (2), Recon Intel (2) = 114
- Mandalorian Resistance (72): Beskad Duelist (28), Offensive Push (4), Recon Intel (2), Jetpack Rockets (8) = 114
- Commando Strike Team (20): DH-447 Sniper (28) = 48

From the core you'd need only a few extra boxes. 1 of Cassian, Specialists, Sabine, Mandos (one box gives both squads), Commandos, Rebel Trooper Upgrade.

Okay, is there one you'd suggest with Jedi? Which I assume is just Skywalker...

 - Luke Skywalker (160): Force Push (10), Jedi Mind Trick (5), Emergency Stims (8) = 183
Operative:
 - K-2SO (70): Jyn's SE-14 Blaster (10) = 80
Corps:
 - 2× Rebel Troopers (40): Z-6 Trooper (20) = 120
 - Rebel Troopers (40): Z-6 Trooper (20), Medical Droid (18) = 78
Special Forces:
 - 2× Commando Strike Team (20): DH-447 Sniper (28) = 96
 - Clan Wren (34): Tristan Wren (38), Ursa Wren (38), Offensive Push (4), HQ Uplink (10), Jetpack Rockets (8) = 132

Commands: • Son of Skywalker, • Crack Shot, •• My Ally is the Force, •• Last Stand, ••• Return of the Jedi, ••• Volunteer Mission, •••• Standing Orders
Something like this is basically the same stuff as listed above, technically you'd need a second box of commandos but you cam proxy pretty easily.

E: whoops that's only 9 activations and you probably want 10, so maybe toss in another box of troopers. (A second core set probably isnt a bad idea if you're splitting it, since both of you will need the cards, tokens, etc)

So I'm picking the cheapest stuff to work on while I work my way up to the core set (I also already have plenty of models to work on as it is, so buying a few models instead of a bunch at a low cost seemed like it made sense to me) and picked up

Rebel Troopers
Cassian & K-2SO
Rebel Troopers Upgrade
Sabine Wren

My question is on the Reben Troopers Upgrade, does it matter how I build the SX-21 or the DLT-20A trooper?

Here is my opinion: don't burn yourself out making a theme match if it means you don't end up playing the thing you bought. I'd rather your stuff doesn't match if it means you get to play with me.

Hell, I think it'd be visually cool to fight purple stormtroopers that are clashing with yellow speeders or something, because at least it's different and interesting.

This goes for all Wargames ever.

The boy and I finished the introductory game tonight. Loved it. He said, "We should play this EVERY Saturday!" I really love the command card / order token system and YGIG activation. That feels ultra modern and the most fair way to handle that sort of thing I've ever seen in any miniature wargame to date.

My only complaint so far is the supposed starter-box neither includes the "minimum" 800 points for any faction nor nearly enough dice. I'm wondering whether I should order another core set or just some more dice and dive into units.

Obi-Wan takes down General Grievous.

Unfortunately, too many Fantasy Flight games expect you to buy multiple copies of the core boxes for their games.

I bought those Ultra card sheets a while back with the 2 large cards per sheet and the rest were mini-american, that would fit in a small binder and now it's like super expensive for all the small card storage :\

either of those ideas might work, IDK how either would fit my ATRT or other larger minis though.

Are there certain Rebel units that are worth less than others?

I am still missing:
Lando ($18)
Jyn Erso ($16)
Chewbacca ($18)
Leia ($18)
Han Solo ($13)
Rebel Veterans ($27)
Airspeeder ($26)
Speeder Truck (lowest I've seen is $52 which still seems expensive)
tauntaun riders ($30)
x-34 landspeeder ($46)
Fleet troopers ($23)
Laser Cannon Team ($21)
Wookie Warriors ($35, msrp)

battlefield:
Crashed Escape pod ($35)
imperial bunker ($60)
Vital Assets ($32)
Priority Supplies ($19)
Downed AT-ST ($38)

$527 total for one of each. I kind of want to get the essentials kit

I have one of everything else on the Rebel side (split a box w/ coworker, he has the imperial cards and minis)

The Echo Base defenders box would be a good pickup for you, everything in that box is on your list of stuff to buy and you can make a pretty decent army out of it. I wouldn’t get the Wookiees or the fleet troopers unless you’re buying enough to spam them or you’re getting a speeder truck to transport them, otherwise it’s likely they’ll just get shot trying to get across the board.

That'll get me some dupe C3P0/R2D2 if I decide to get the Crashed Escape Pod, though.

A little more expensive (though $40 I think isn't terrible for how much space it has), but I use a Plano tackle box, which has lots of room for lots of units and tokens I bought a few extra inserts to keep my rebel troops and for MCP so I can swap them out.

This:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Plano-Guide-Series-Angled-Storage-System-3600-Tackle-Box-Organizer/19487463?athbdg=L1600
I have something like 40 figures, my move and range guides, dice and tokens.
(and I keep cards in a cheap 3 ring binder. Better than having them loose where the edges get chipped or bent.)

I ended up getting this:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001TH8P1E (medium size)

it fit 99% of my rebel minis in the top pull out tray (stacked...which is not ideal, I know) minus the ATRT, and Clan Wren. I had so much left over I was able to put all my assembled FalloutWW minis AND my entire collection of stargrave minis (again, stacked...but most are unpainted so I'm sure it's ok) and both fallout cards + tokens for Legion.

Of course, I go back to order another one because I liked it so much and they're out of stock.

I go to walmart and saw a 3-tier fishing box and used that to store my remaining random etsy/wizkids/age of sigmar minis/other minis. with room to spare.

Now, none of these are big enough for terrain, and unfortunately anything with a 32mm base or larger is kind of a pain in the rear end because it also ends up being too "wide" to lay flat in most tackle box trays, but it's fine for most of these rebel minis w/ small bases.

I think if I wasn't trying to jam as many minis as possible in this, I might need more, but just those two held pretty much all my non-wh40k minis, now has me considering two 3600s, one to store my space marines and one to store my necrons. Maybe another to store whatever few minis I have for other armies.

A bit more expensive than large totes, but also more convenient to get at and carry to my friend's house.

Whatever the plastic is that is part of the regular Rebel Troopers sucks.

Whatever the plastic is that is part of the same stuff as Cassian Andor & K-2SO & Clan Wren does not suck.

(reason being the latter is 100% easier to clean, and the former has tons of mold-shifts and low quality.....resolution? so it makes it harder to tell what's an intentional pant seam and what's a gap because of the mold)

The trade off seems to be that the plastic for the former you could throw across the room and it'd be fine, whereas the latter you have to be marginally more careful with.
