Given that no one I know wants to play this and it will be me forcing people to play demos, I'm gonna stick with a single core set and not buy anything else until that is painted.

That does actually look pretty poo poo though.

Asmodee is on the same scale at GW and they're trying to compete with 40K, presumably, so seems fair to expect a comparable quality product. And that doesn't look like it.
