I know, right? I personally can't stand it when an RPG company actually tries to treat me like an actual human being instead of regarding me as a filthy peasant.

But realtalk - streaming probably does a much better job giving people an actual point of reference for how to play the game as opposed to the 'how to play the game' section in RPG rulebooks that describe a scene.

Its probably why I complain about 5e streams so much to be honest, give the smaller companies a chance to show their game and almost without fail it is a giant boon for sales.

The strongest! The smartest!

Also extremely few people watch streamers play RPGs out of any interest in the rules. They watch it to enjoy the actors and characters and drama and jokes and storylines and etc, etc, etc. You know, the reason most people watch anything. That they also kinda pick up how the game works is basically a nice side effect.

Interestingly I find you need something special for me to watch D&D 5E - like, sure, I'm watching Critical Role's second campaign but no others - but my absolutely favorite streams are for a FFG Star Wars game and a Savage Worlds Deadlands game. I'm certainly not saying there's only the one good 5E stream, but CR is the only one that I find interesting for whatever reason.

Sell those other streams my man, what star wars and savage worlds are you watching?

CR is a bunch of charismatic people who all have a similar sense of humour and click very well together so its easy to get behind their naive enthusiasm as they experience dnd stuff for the first time. It's pretty obvious why it's compelling to watch even if I would definitely dislike that style of game.

Both are on Twitch - the channel Hyper RPG has Pencils and Paragons which is the Star Wars game. They also have this Battletech game called Death From Above which uses a unique system that mixes an RPG and miniatures (and it's not A Time Of War mixed with the actual miniatures game before somebody asks, but it was developed by some of the BT mucky-mucks). The other with the Deadlands show is SavingThrowShow, and both I think are worth one's time if they like the game already.

I know of another one called Happy Jack's that plays, as I can recall, stuff like Savage Worlds RIFTS and the L5R beta but I haven't watched enough of it to form an opinion, but I do like seeing non-D&D games played so maybe check it out?

Yeah, it's tricky. I was working on some fan material for a game recently and realized my color-coding could be an issue (though, IMO, not a huge one) for the color-blind, but it's a question of whether or not I sit down and do two hours of work to fix that or... I do two hours of added actual content everybody will still be able to enjoy either way. I leaned towards the latter and will probably be fixing the former down the road, but it's a question of how far I go with something that's just an unpaid fanboy project. :raise:

Colorblind people are used to a little trouble anyway and won't come after you for being a Colour Hitler or anything. Just avoid putting bright green next to bright red and 90% of colorblind folk will thank you - it's a combo that can give red/greeners a really weird nausea response. (This, as you'd imagine, makes Christmas great fun!)

If you are making ca 100k/month then having basic accessibility options is a reasonable request, but in your case most people would be fine if when problems are brought to light you try to avoid them on your next project, especially since most accessibility stuff is pretty easy and cheap if you do/consider them early.

Is blue/orange a problem? It contrasts just as sharply.

Solving all of life's problems through enhanced casting of Occam's Razor. Reward yourself with an imaginary chalice.

A good trick I've seen is to marry your color choices with distinct symbols and visual designs so people with certain types of colorblindness could differentiate, like the star-shaped pieces do this and are red while the triangle pieces do this and are green.

Liquid Communism posted:

I don't know. Blue-yellow colorblind is very different from red-green. The issue also isn't that the contrast is too much, but rather that very bright green and very bright red side by side start to sort of flash into each other while the brain tries to distinguish between the viable colour information it's getting (which is why the red and green are visible) and the scrambled or missing information (while the colours are visible, certain hues inside them are either not perceptible as a colour or misinterpreted depending on how the rods and cones are setup), and there's a lot of overlap between the wavelengths of light in the very bright reds and greens. Put them side by side and the brain basically flips out trying to work out what the colour where the line blurs (even if it's crisp) is, because both colours are simultaneously stimulating the brain with viable and non-viable information.

Picture a rapidly changing gif of two blocks, or make one if you're afantasmic, one bright red and the other bright green, now make them flash back and forth so fast that they seem to be both at once. That's basically what happens with static colours. Presumably a similarly discomforting effect will happen with any set of high contrast colours flashing rapidly into each other, but the key difference lies in the defective vision causing those otherwise static, normal and fine colours to do the same thing because the info is being scrambled by the eye.

Hero taxi diver an indicator that the story was fake. The diver never gets defined as more than "the cab driver" when an actual person recalling a transpired event would use a he/she pronoun.

If you read as a female driver, it's a believable woman "looking out for each other" moment. A male driver gives proof that #notallmen are lovely harassers.

I have a hunch that the undefined secondary characters in STDH stories are for the audience to imagine as an insert for their best selves. Who we hope we'd be in that situation. Not necessarily the hero, but the person who frowns at the mean cashier or claps for the Christian grad student.
