No one has hard data on Paizo sales of anything, ever, because Paizo doesn't publish that data.

Dancey left Goblinworks to go back to AEG. Lisa Stevens had some consultant come assess the disaster. The consultant told her to finish the game in-house because nobody would want to buy it from them. I think their dev team was reported to be like 5 or less people at this point. The consultant also gave them some optimistic line about how the finished game might find a tiny niche to sustain itself in.

There has been a tremendous effort to show respect and deference to the original cultures that worshipped or currently worship these gods. IIRC this has resulted in the Hindu gods being one of the bigger holdups, to make sure they were done just right. It also means the Egyptian gods are using their Egyptian names rather than the Greek ones we mostly know them by.

It was a nightmare for the Egyptian gods, let alone the Hindu ones - Egyptian religion has all the stable canon of a long-running comic book franchise.

And re: using Egyptian names with the Greek ones as secondary. Yeah, you're welcome. I am wholly outclassed in specialist knowledge compared to some of Scion's writers, but I'm more than a layman about Egypt, got anal about it, and badgered Neall until he changed them.

Yeah, there’s like three or four different versions of the Death of Osiris myth cycle, iirc? I liked your take on Bast-Bastet-Sekhmet, too.

My issue with mark-like mechanics in table top is independent of system or version. They are all lame hacks for a lack of a proper “get in the way to protect the party” mechanic. There are many ways to implement such a thing. AoOs were the initial lame attempt that failed because the cost of eating an attack to charge the caster wasn’t much of a deterrent and AoO trip/grapple wasn’t very reliable. The various intercepts were better but way too situational and limited, not to mention requiring feat taxes.

Do you know where the term ‘marking’ comes from, and in what context it is used in the real world?

There have been three - three - D&D movies.

Of them, the second one is actually serviceable as a fantasy movie, and the first would be fine as a goofball dumb comedy if you could overlay an audio track of an actual gaming table. The third one, uh, exists.

Honestly, a dungeon crawl as a movie would probably sell if you were to actually pay someone with some modicum of skill to write it. Set it in the Realms, cameo Elminster, call it good enough. Focus on making a fun fantasy action movie more than a series of lovely injokes.

Nobody'd invest in it, though, so you'd never get the budget to do it well.

The second D&D movie is basically this, but without Elminster. It didn’t sell due to poor marketing, but it was decent enough.
