Wouldn't they be legally in the clear until that actually comes down, since if they actually ceased when GW told them to with a C&D, then GW can't sue? In addition, they're only stopping production, the old stuff will be staying up until someone tells them it has to come down.

I think my DM might quit if Roll20 dies, simply because he bought the entire Kingmaker PF2e campaign for it.

Apparently they were going to do an announcement stream on the DnDBeyond twitch channel, but before it started it was basically nothing but #OpenDnD in the chat and then they cancelled the stream.

Finster Dexter posted:So, they're completely axing the royalties and "we own your content" bits? That seems like a pretty big win, but I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop (i.e. the release of the actual OGL 2.0 text). I think they've still burned more than enough goodwill between this and the internal leaks about "customers being obstacles between them (the execs) and 'their' money" that most if not allt he pbulishers whoa lready walked away aren't ging to come crawling backno matter what.

Leperflesh posted:Since it's not a publicly held company, the pressure is by law enforcement/lawyers for illegal stuff, and by any major investors. And customers, if they care. Some do, undoubtedly, but a lot of folks probably just buy stuff on kickstarter and have no idea that there's a controversy. Yeah a friend of mine got a bunch of us Wyrmwood dice cases recently, and we had no idea about any of this at the time. I posted the article to our group and we're all like 'well poo poo' and not buying from them anymore. But I doubt enough people will care to make a difference.

Unless you're using one of the more expensive VTTs that handle a ton of mechanics for you, you absolutely do need to learn the rules of the game. Doubly so if you're going to be doing any kind of off-the-wall improvising.

My group has been playing Kingmaker in PF2e and you don't HAVE to go for optimal builds, and it feels like there aren't nearly as many trap options as there were in previous versions. The only real system flaw we've felt like we run into is that the numbers are a little too tightly bound, and you'll either wipe the floor with the enemy, or barely make it out without someone getting pasted with very little in between.

hyphz posted:It’s just a nasty trade off. We’re playing PF2e’s Kingmaker campaign at the moment, but our roleplay centric player is highly frustrated because the rules for running the actual kingdom are not only totally busted (they basically admitted they weren’t playtested. Like, at all. Shameful) but they allow no scope for actually roleplaying diplomatic encounters. Yeah our group basically had to patch the rules for anything to make any sense (It would take literal years of in-game time to gain each Kingdom level). And we still might do more work to abstract it later.

hyphz posted:You'll probably have to. The major problem is that skills your Kingdom didn't specialise in never increase, but the Control DC does, and it's used for everything. So as you gain territory you'll quickly find it's nearly impossible to succeed at anything but the narrow skills you chose. And while I guess it's correct that a kingdom would realistically need to expand carefully, in practice the main goal of playing the hexcrawl is to expand and gain territory for your kingdom as quickly as possible... Thankfully we've already headed that off partially by letting the characters in leadership positions use their own skills to do Kingdom rolls, because otherwise it doesn't actually matter at all who is doing what.
