So while the blues and greens on sand looks nice, it's really not quite emulating the Ghibli style and so comes off looking a bit cheap. Especially with the samey walls in a lot of chunks.

I agree. I've never been opposed to a speedrun marathon having longer games but if that isn't the theme (like RPG Limit Break) then really they need to be spaced out, and there shouldn't be too many of them. Makes me appreciate how AGDQ's schedule works well even if it does not always suit my particular needs (of course it doesn't).
