It's the last race of the year, and I know it doesn't matter too much as the championship is already won, but anyone have any wild speculations?

Rossi wins? Actually I'd quite like to see Pedrosa win it, only because he's the eternal bridesmaid, and one win at the end would just be gravy.

Any guesses at the odds someone other than Marc winning next year? I feel like his crashing is finally catching up to him in the form of injuries, something I figured would happen to him eventually. Regardless I'd put less than a 10% chance Dovi or Lorenzo wins next year and I'm not sure there would be any other realistic competitors.
|
# ? Nov 19, 2018 15:48 |

I think Dovi has a strong chance if the Ducati is the best bike but I can’t see them carrying that big of an advantage into next year.

Depends how bad Marc's injuries are, but his and crutchlows injuries might stall Honda's testing program. If that happens I wouldn't rule out Dovi or the Yamaha guys being serious contenders, with Suzuki nicking the odd podium and maybe a win here or there.

Moto2 and Moto3 will go to a Q1/Q2 format next year. Not sure if that's too big a deal for the Moto2 riders, but it'll definitely help the Moto3 traffic jams. Who's ready to see if the new Triumph engines will stand up to the conditions like the Honda engines did?

I've gotten a big kick out of watching more Moto2 and Moto3 this last season, so looking forward to more of that. New Triumph engine apparently sounds great, so should be interesting to see what they do with it.

Don't get me wrong, I like triumphs and they make fine road bikes, but I can't remember the last time they were responsible for an entire grid's worth of high strung race engines. Even Honda had a few go pop over the years and they are absurdly dedicated and have decades of experience.

My pick for next season if marquez is horribly injured by a shoulder surgery gone wrong is dovi and/or the yamahas depending on how testing shakes out for them. I think rins is far more likely to win a race or two than lorenzo, I'll be amazed if he does better in his first year at honda than he did at ducati.

Am I the only one who can’t see Vinales being able to mentally hold it together for a title challenge? The dude is as quick as anyone else on the grid but I’m pretty confident he’ll fold under the pressure the second it looks like he’s a legit title contender.

Depends how much of his problems stemmed from finding himself on such an unexpectedly uncompetitive machine and the issues with the chief engineer. He's trying to get back into his groove with changes, and if the new bike is competitive, I can see him making a legit challenge.

Crazy how close those times are. 2.5 seconds QP2 in Valencia 2003 between Rossi and Jeremy McWilliams 1.8 seconds between P2 Sete and McWilliams. 0.8 of a second between P2 Sete and P7 Edwards (on an Aprillia at the time). I'm not claiming a single Qualifying session would be definitive proof of anything, but it's good to remember how loving Good Rossi Was In His Prime and also how stratified that period of MotoGP could be.

Anyone interested in the New MotoE?
