Since it stayed above freezing for more than 24 hours it is time to break the Challenger out of hibernation and yes driving it after 4 months of pickup truck does make it feel like my arse is on the floor.

Different topic: Anyone in here experienced with buying a time-share property? This would be a 4 week/yr ownership of a specific house, not a big resort type thing. I'm in the honeymoon phase of it seeming like a great idea so I'm looking for a reality smack. Taxes are fine but the HOA dues appear to be horrendous, and I don't know how the time is scheduled. I guess I should call the realtor and talk myself out of it. Also it appears hard to sell, the current owners paid $47k for this share a few years ago according to zillow, and it's been on the market for over a year and is now $23k after 2 price drops. I can easily afford that and we can rent it out if we don't use it all 4 weeks, but I'm sure we would.

Background: my family has rented the same beach house at new year's for the last 25 years but the owners are retiring so it's no longer available (they told us as we left this year that it was the last time). We also rent a different house for a week every summer, and try to get the same one every time. But it's never available on holidays. We like tradition and going to the same place over and over so the idea of having a place that's ours is appealing.

I have a one week share of an apartment on Cape Cod in September. It cost $7k to buy and I put it into the RCI system so I can trade it for points that I use to get accomodation pretty much all over the world. I usually trade my one week up to 2-3 weeks elsewhere in the US by taking last minute deals that pop up so that resorts can fill any empty rooms they have. This works since I don't have kids and it is just the wife and I, not so much if you need to be more organised. Right now it costs $400 a year in maintenance fees and about $90 a year for RCI so lets call it a round $500 a year which gets me 2-3 weeks in high end resorts per year. I still have to get flights and all that but it works out well as long as you are willing to take a risk and see what is available on short notice.

As for selling the thing I doubt we would be able to really since there always seems to be people just giving the share up and the resort then resells it. The other scam they run is they will try to "upgrade" you into a travellers club program or some other poo poo where instead of owning a share of a physical thing you just pay money into joining the club and annual fees. Of course this means they can now resell your share to someone else and then 12 months later pull the same thing with them over and over, which I called them out on and they haven't bothered me with it since.

TL;DR

Pros - if you are willing to put some effort in you can get awesome deals and have 2-3 weeks away a year in nice resorts for the cost of 2-3 nights in a hotel in most popular cities and you are not forced into going to the same place year after year,

Cons - the people who run these things are high pressure salesmen of the worst kind and will try to upsell you into their bullshit other products after getting you in with a timeshare and you need to tell them to feck off 4-5 times a year when they invite you to a owners meeting or some other BS where they promise they won't try to sell you anything and then will try to sell you something. You will never be able to sell the thing so it really is a long term thing that you need to commit to using otherwise you are funding people like me to go on holiday. Never buy a share on finance since they will get you a loan for 25% since they want to be certain everyone is approved of course and if you try to pay it off early they will be obstructive to the point of not wanting to take your money as they want the interest to keep going for the 5-10 years the loan is due to go.

If you can handle the poo poo from sales people and have the money to spend then it works otherwise run away as fast as you can.

A kid was a dick to me one time in secondary school, this was when I was 12, 6ft, playing rugby as a front row prop and could grow facial hair. Apparently this was a subject of ridicule right up until I broke the kids nose and jaw. That is my story.

P.S. that was the mid 90s so I doubt kids can get away with it these days. The P.E teacher who saw everything denied I hit the kid saying he fell because A) I was his star rugby player and B) he thought the kid deserved it.

Getting onboard the loving breeding to show standards train. Had to put a 3 year old dog down just over a week ago because of a number of neurological issues. Ignoring how hard it is to have to put an animal to sleep that is so young and you have had since it was 8 weeks old the breeders are either ignorant of the problems which is a concern in of itself or don't care. I do work with Pug Rescue of New England because hey they are hosed up little mutants but it is not their fault the breeders however can all go to hell. If there was never again another pug born I would feel good about it because the sheer number of animals that are born with horrific problems and the breeder just tries to dump them off to rescues saying they will just put the animal down if we don't take it.

Example being a couple in Maine who breed their two Pugs that are already pretty hosed up but they carry a defective gene that causes 1 in 5 of the puppies to have a condition where the esophagus has slack in it so food get trapped on the way down and they cannot eat without being sat up in a high chair like a child and fed liquid food for their entire lives. They have dumped 3 puppies off on the rescue in the last 2 years all of which are hard to get homes for since most people don't want to deal with the hassle and they have tons of other issues as well that cost thousands to try and control. When confronted about this they just told us they were their dogs and they will do with them what they want and Animal Control just shrugged. So yep next year there will be another litter of Pug puppies born with a ton of problems and will never have a good quality of life but the owners don't care because hey people will pay thousands for each puppy and the ill ones will get dumped on charities or just put down.

I am a mix of guilty and angry about my Olde English Bulldogge I got from a breeder because I paid to buy her and so incentivised them to continue breeding. Of course there is always the upside to this and because the wife and I work with rescue organisations doing event work and fostering someone reached out about a Bulldog in Texas that needed a home with someone who had experience looking after the breed so he is on his way up this week to look at snow on the ground and be very confused. I will help dogs that are already here even when I know their breeds are unhealthy but I am against "pure breed" dogs because even the working ones are getting hosed up, take a look at show german shepherds for a good example.

Applebees Appetizer posted:

If more people were content with mutts, "pure breeds" wouldn't be problem, but lots of people treat dogs as a fashion statement or want a certain breed for aesthetic reasons so the same dogs keep getting inbred and the genetic mutations are almost impossible to get rid of now.

The experience I detailed shows the same thing happens with Designer and Modern Recreation breeds. Basically people inbreed to maintain a certain look which is the whole problem. My Pug is a good little guy and was bought by someone as a fashion accessory. Now usually a male Pug weights in between 12-15 lbs. Our one weights in at 30lb so he is not sitting in a little bag to be carried around Boston. So he ended up being neglected and coming to the rescue where we took him in since he had some behavioral issues due to not being socialised or any kind of obedience training done.

I started doing this because I wanted to help those who couldn't help themselves but it has just opened my eyes to how lovely people really can be and a better understanding of my own faults.

I bought an old 350 SBC that has been sitting about for years off Facebook for $200. I am fully expecting it to be junk as soon as I pull the heads and going to have to get it honed and put over sized pistons in. I am going to do everything apart from the machine shop work on the block myself since I have no vehicle to put it in and just wanted a SBC to play around with since the parts for them are everywhere and cheap.

Expect a thread of me flipping it off a lot and buying shares in the company that makes WD40 after going through gallons of it.

it turns over but has a cast iron twin barrel intake so that is all getting junked as well as the heads. I will use them to practice porting on and all that but probably going to put centre bolt ones on. Things like the alternator, water pump etc... I am going to try and rebuild but I expect a ton of it is getting junked but I would prefer to not just end up using the block and everything else being new :v:
