Man I love Bond movies. Well, okay, I actively hate Die Another Day, but every other movie I love. Even the Roger Moore ones casual audiences seem to dislike (seriously, Goons put Moonraker and A View to a Kill at the bottom?!) are endlessly watchable.

Craig is the best Bond, and, while tastes differ, its hard to argue that his run hasn't been the most exceptional since Connery. Casino Royale is the best movie in the franchise, one of the few movies to give Bond a real arc, and the closest adaptation of one of the Fleming novels.

Quantum of Solace had a rough behind the scenes development, but is pretty, has two of the best sequences in the series (the opening car chase and the opera scene are both phenomenal), and is already seeing a critical reevaluation the way OHMSS did. People mock its villain's plot, but a rich capitalist engineering a third world coup, with the tacit support of the CIA, in order to control their natural resources is something that real life Bond villains do, and is perfect for the grounded take they were going for when Craig first started. And Mr. Greene is a compelling villain, who gets one of the cruelest comeuppances in the series.

Skyfall is Craig's Goldfinger, a less cerebral, more schlocky take on the format that really resonated with audiences for whatever reason. Except Bond doesn't spend a third of the movie imprisoned, so actually Skyfall is better. Sure, the plot takes a few shortcuts, but its never as nonsensical as, like, 90% of the franchise. Silva is a fun villain to watch, Deakins shot the hell out of it, and watching Bond turn his childhood home into a death trap makes for a memorable and riveting climax. Who dislikes this movie??

Everyone hates on Spectre, but its actually 2/3rds of a great film. That is to say, everything up to the moment Bond escapes from the torture device. The brothers twist and the retconning was weird, but what really hurts the movie was the wet fart of a third act that wastes all the great tension the beginning of the movie builds. You've got Mr. White's return (and the great callback to it when Bond is at his lowest at Blofield's base), the train fight, the Mexican city cold open, Q's workshop, etc etc, its all good stuff. How do you fix the movie? You take out them being brothers and you don't let Bond escape the base so effortlessly. They should have used the original ending, with the rest of the MI6 crew charging into the base as a callback to all the old "good guy army vs bad guy army" endings of the older films. That's essentially what the movie was, a sly remake of one of the Connery films, like YOLT. Oh well.

Moonraker is peak Roger Moore. It moves at probably the fastest pace of any of his films, and each scene is more ridiculous than the last. Its stupid, but its everything you want out of a Moore film. Also the villain looks like a regular sized Peter Dinklage.

The actual worst Moore movie is For Your Eyes Only, because it tries to not to be a Moore film. Its way too serious! It would have been great for Dalton, however.

I really wish Martin Campbell would make another Bond. I mean, not as much as I want Villeneuve to make one, but close.

Both Skyfall and You Know My Name are better than almost every pre-Craig theme. Bond themes are loving terrible overall.

Terrible opinion. All of Connery's movies have great songs, Roger Moore had Wings and Duran Duran, etc. There are a few stinkers, and they're basically all love ballads.

OHMSS' theme is perfection.

Ever since they brought up Brosnan's melodramatic "pain acting" on the James Bonding podcast I've have had trouble taking him 100% seriously.

Brosnan looks the best in a suit out of all of them, too.

Connery and Lazenby definitely enjoyed loving. With Moore it was more like that he lived in an universe where sex replaced the handshake or something, it was just what you did before even having a conversation with a member of the opposite sex. Either that or an old English grandpa was somehow the most irresistible human being alive. In Octopussy there's a moment where a woman who has known Bond for the course of a 30 second standing conversation decides to take a knife for him, its nuts. Dalton and Craig's Bonds put the mission first and only gently caress for Queen and Country. Brosnan's Bond probably only seduces women so he can watch himself in the mirror like Patrick Bateman.

Are you kidding me? That collapsing Venetian building is a great setpiece and everything from Vesper's death ("the bitch is dead") to turning the tables on Mr. White with the final music sting is like the perfect ending, almost as good as the opening. It's the perfect number of twists to make it a rollercoaster of emotion, from tragedy to triumph in a very efficient climax.

You're supposed to already suspect Matthis. Bond loses the first time around because Le Chiffre tricks him with his tell and implies that he knew that Bond knew his tell. He 'confirms' this suspicion during the torture sequence, as he doesn't want to blow Vesper's cover. This is what makes the twist of the movie work. TBH if you can't follow the plot of CR you might be thick.

I might've liked TSWLM more if I hadn't seen Moonraker first. Its the exact same movie but completely nuts. That and Golden Gun are my favorite Moores.

Yes, I'm the one guy who loves all the "bad" Bonds. They're fun!

It's a play on Licence to Kill, which does not contain an earthquake machine. The earlier 80s film A View to a Kill, however, is about Christopher Walken trying to bomb the San Andreas fault line in order to flood Silicon Valley.

I think Campbell has said he'd only do it if there was something new to work with, i.e. a new actor. Craig wanted Villeneuve to direct but he's too busy with Dune.

Because Craig's movies have made a ton of money and he's really good in the role. Him grumbling in interviews about it doesn't matter.

James Bond Radio is pretty good but there's like 40 minutes of trivia questions at the beginning and end of every episode, its ridiculous.

I prefer the Bonding podcast for its sense of humor, though I think they kind of ran out of steam and fell too in love with their goofy impersonations.

I like the Moore movies but I don't think they're actually good movies, the way the best Connery and Craig films are.

I'll fight anyone who insults Dalton, however.

It doesn't really go as far as Batman. Raoul Silva is the creation of Judi Dench's M and she is his ultimate victim. The IC takes broken people like Silva and Bond and ultimately creates as many problems as it solves, etc. There is some light criticism there.

But yea, Bond overall is a pretty conservative film series, with messages ranging from "Anti-nuclear activists are Communist patsies", "Environmentalist types can't be trusted", "The Blacks are all part of some sort of international drug ring" and "Even when a woman says no she means 'Yes'". Not as bad as the books.
