Safe pick: Amanchu! Advance
Risky Pick: Hisone to Maso-tan

I'll also definitely catch MHA 3 once I catch up with Season 2. Might give Golden Kamuy and FranXX's second cour a try.

Also people should watch that Kase-San OVA because Kase-San is Very Good.

That's a real shame. Maerchen was never going to be a masterpiece or anything, but the writing had a charmingly dorky and earnest streak to it. Deserved a decent production.

Plus, you know, always sucks for the unlucky bastards in the production trenches.

This is bullshit. Artists do not and should not feel pride in their own exploitation. The whole argument that artists would be invested in work for the profit of others due to the love of art is cynical nonsense, and lies behind how the industry is a soul sucking machine that chews people up and leaves only burned out husks. Every artists knows of the lovely client. You owe the lovely client nothing.

Maybe

some of the animators who were working on Maerchen

liked the idea

and wanted it to be good

Like I started off being on your side here just because I don't think most of the animators involved in this project would be greviously hurt by someone laughing a bit at how the project melted down considering that it's not those animators' fault, but this weird class-conciousness revolutionary schtick you've whipped out here is, uh

odd.

So yeah animators like anime and want to make good anime. But they should do that BY not being doormats, not making more and more sacrifices that only encourage more and more exploitative practices. And as western fans we should support them in this.

Clearly Maerchen's actual staff thought different, so this mostly reads like you chewing people out for not solving their problems themselves by being socialist or revolutionary enough for you.

just because imo was a little better because it was a much more writing-based show and also the fact that it didnt have any action scenes or anything like, super high intensity meant that they could resort to just extremely static shots that looked kind of bad but werent actively monstrous to witness

unfortunately, marchen has neither of those available to them

Granted, I only consumed Just Because through people posting screens on twitter, but I never got the impression that the visuals got melty the way Maerchen's have there either.

I still need to watch the last two of Magus Bride, but I don't expect them to change my overall opinion on the show: Writing: Good to Great, Art: Good to Excellent, Animation/Adaptation: Decent to Mediocre.

Especially late in the show, there were a lot of scenes I really liked on paper that just didn't look all that great in motion on screen.

It's kind of weird how bad Madoka clones seem like they all go turbo-violent and hosed up when Madoka itself really didn't have all that much physical violence in it. And even a good chunk of what violence it did have was framed pretty indirectly.

I know it would really undercut dramatic tension but I really wish people did actually speak and play games in this kinda show like how they do it in life. The machine gun squad thats a bunch of big buff dudes who just fire machine guns randomly because they like the noise is way closer to what normal game players would be like than a dude that identifies every weapon by its sound and is basically playing arma with how he gives commands.

I mean, that's all fair, but those people totally exist, they're called tryhards.

Well, we did just finish an episode in which a tiny girl wearing a bright pink coat and bunny cap wins the game by hiding in a suitcase in the middle of the road before springing out and mowing down an entire squad of trained JSDF players with P-Chan The Pink P90 and some well-applied speedhacks...

Of course

I quite like that the MC looks way different between IRL and her avatar, I remember chuckling a bit in the bit of SAO classic I watched where the villain makes everyone's avs look like their real selves and Kirito and like the only other named character we'd met so far basically just got slightly less spiky.

Her torso IS too long, tho, it's just that her arms are equally stretched.

The new Cutie Honey...honestly kind of bored me to tears. The action felt slow and lifeless, the fanservice felt kind of rote and not even particularly hot, the art turned me off in a way that I'm having difficulty putting down, the overall tone was weirdly self-serious and deliberate in a way that doesn't seem like a good fit for a Cutie Honey gig, and it just generally kind of passed straight through me without leaving much of an impression either way. I might give it another episode or two to see if it can elicit even one solitary strong opinion out of me, but I was surprised at just how bland I found that first one.

FWIW, Trainer-San's actually pretty decent in episodes 2 and 3.

The names or horseracing framing device are probably here to stay tho

So was there any particular reason for the bear in Golden Kamui to be CGI? Like, I dunno, is it some sort of supernatural demon bear that's supposed to look completely out of place from its surroundings? Or did the animators just decide they couldn't/didn't wanna draw a bear?
