Kinda a shame - I'm mostly interested in seeing a non-video LP of SH3, and that's probably too much to ask for.

The Youtube subtitle editing engine seems alright and so I have sent some English subtitles to part 1 of the Drama CD. It says it should be approved by the video uploader and Youtube specialists before it's published.
Let's see how this works. I will edit them for BBcode and post here today too I think

Thank you for letting me know, since Youtube didn't really notify me of it lol. They came in well, and are now published. :) Though checking the other videos to see if I could put in some subtitles too led me to discover that Youtube sometimes publishes its own set of automatic translations...

I don't care at all. Becoming famous for this kind of translations is not my goal at all. And I usually don't care who is the translator of the text I am reading, unless the translation is very bad.
In some parts of the drama CD, Youtube has correctly recognized the language as Japanese, and automatically transcribed it quite well. I can't edit its mistakes though.

Here comes part 1. And part 2 is already sent by Youtube.

My hometown is a village in Wales. It was a small village named Taliesin near a river bank. When I was born, I was loved by everyone in the village. In a village that was not blessed by a childbirth for a long time, a long awaited child was born.
Zlato, a treasure. It was a name that was given to me. But I couldn't fulfill the expectations given by such name. Between life and death. At any time, all that is left to me is to survive.
A girl that attracts death and ghosts. This is me, Koudelka Iasant.

Koudelka. Night one: Between Life and Death.

Koudelka... Koudelka!
<little Koudelka voice> Mama!
Where are you?
Mama!
Koudelka. Here you are. Koudelka.
Mama!
Die! <attacks>
Mama, why?
A cursed child. You...
No, I.. Stop, mama.
It is nice you were born. It would be nice if you died! Koudelka
Mama! Mama!

<Koudelka wakes up in a cart>
Hey, miss! What happened? Have you seen a nightmare?
No, it's nothing.
Is that so? It seemed you were seeing nightmares.
Really, it really was nothing
If so, good.
<Cart stops>
What happened?
I am sorry, I can only go this far. If we go this way until night comes we will only reach a village in ruins.
Ruins? That's perfect.
You don't care? Don't you know? They appear there.
Thieves?
No, far more disturbing. Ghosts.
Ghosts?
Many people reported that. That's why, don't get me wrong, you'd better avoid that too. All right?
I'll go.
Eh?
Thank you for the ride.
Hey! Hey, wait! Well, it's not any of my concern from now on.

At that night I stayed in the shed in the village that I arrived at. The darkness of the night is the world where I lived.
The world colored by the shadows of death is the most familiar to me, but it is the world I hate the most.

Koudelka...
Again!
Koudelka...

Go away! Go away!
Koudelka...

Elaine..

I see her. She appeared before me a few months back. A ghost of the woman that tries to tell me something. What I know about her
is that her name is Elaine. That's all.

What? What do you want from me?
Help me
Help you? I am sorry, but there is no one here who could help you.
Please... Koudelka...
What do you want? Do you think I can do something? You are dead. So go to heaven or to hell already!
I can't ... Save me ... Only you....me. Patri..
Stop it! I can't do anything. I am not the one ghosts like you should be talking to.
Please...
Don't come near me!
Koudelka...
Go away!
Please...
Go away! Why? Why me? Even though I can't do anything.

Who is it? I know you are there. Who are you?
Don't be mad. I am going away already. <really going away>
A girl? Why are you in a place like this? Don't be scared. I won't do anything to you.
Big sis... Who are you?
I am Koudelka, that's my name.
Strange name. Are you foreign?
Not really. I am traveling though. From far away.
Really? I am Alicia
Alicia?
Say, what are you doing here? Where is your home?
My home is close. Here is my secret playground
Close? But here it is ...
But, you know? Actually, mom and dad know about it. You know, I made my dad angry and hid here, and then mom came and said: "He is not mad anymore, you can come back". Where are your mom and dad?
Mine?
You don't have them?
I do, but they are very very far away.
Hmmmm ... Say, what kind of people they are?
My mom and my dad, they were very kind. I loved them But...

If only you were not born...you...
Big sis? What is it?
It's nothing. That's right. Where are your parents? So late at a place like this... Are they not worried?
No. Mom and dad said: "Wait here".
Here?
Yes, dad decided to go to a place far away from here, to a place that people from this village do not know.
<backgound music becomes sinister>
They all hate. They all are mean to me, even though I didn't do anything. They are mean to mom and dad too. Mom always cried. That's why we will leave and go to a new place. That's why I wait all this time. Because they promised they will surely come for me. But... But they still don't come. And then here... I was in flames...
Alicia...
It was hot ... So hot ... I heard mom and dad outside. They both cried. I wanted to go to them. But I couldn't move. And then flames were gone. And I waited. But... Mom and dad didn't come. And a long time since then, many people that are not from this village came here. But when they saw me, they went away.
Big sis, Don't go away. Don't go away. Don't go away!
This kid...
Why does everyone leave me?
This kid is not human.
I can't stand it anymore! Nooooo!

TDI is a bonafide workhorse. :monocle: I'll definitely be checking out that LP!

Meanwhile I got worried about the Japanese auto-captions not being able to be edited, and did some research into the matter. Turns out that Youtube is pretty silly, and won't let anybody edit the auto-captions unless they've been unpublished. So I went ahead and did that.

You won’t find it on the list of captions (since I’ve unpublished them for having errors), but if a video had auto-captions added then they're now going to be in the drafts. Just type in the language you want to add captions for, and in the case of the Japanese auto-captions, once you select “Japanese,” you’ll be taken to the draft provided by the auto-captions.

Nimsant posted:

Hey! Hey, wait! Well, not my concern from now on.

Hey, your work has really improved a lot! There's hardly anything for me critique. :) I can only now critique small things such as adding a few words so that way it becomes "Well, it's not any of my concern from now on." which is what people commonly say.

quote:

I am Koudelka, that's my name.
Strange name. Are you foreign?
Not really. I am travelling though. From far away.
So, I am Alicia

Just a small typo on "traveling," and English favoring "Then, I'm Alicia" rather than "So, I'm Alicia". Using "so" in that sort of sentence feels kinda... conditional? It's as if her name is only Alicia as a consequence of something. Using "then" is something that mostly comes from habit. Trying to find a specific reason why though was actually much harder than I expected it to be. :sweatdrop: The closest I could find comes from here, where it was suggested that "then" is often used when one speaker replies to another. I had to stop and think about how I usually use "then" in daily life, and they all agreed with that little rule, so that seems to confirm it's the official reason why.

quote:

Say, what are you doing here? Where is your home?

No critique here, just praise. It sounds very natural! :3:

quote:

My?

"My" isn't a word that gets used by itself. Since we're talking about Koudelka's parents, the possessive pronoun "mine" would be used instead.

quote:

You don't have them?
I do have. But they are very very far away.

"I do, but they are very, very far away." In sentences where someone is asking "Do you (verb)?", the simple response is "Yes, I do/No, I don't". The verb is not really added to the reply in common speech.

quote:

That's nothing. That's right. Where are your parents? So late at a place like this... Are they not worried?

"It's nothing." Using "that" is more specific in grammatical use than "it". It's also a bit more 'distancing'. There are times when it's good to use "that" to distance an event or object away from the speaker (E.g. "Oh, don't worry about me stuttering as a child. That's all in the past."), but here it's best to stay in the present with "it's". Responding "it's nothing" is also a common reply that gets said a lot in English (and memes) too.

quote:

They all hate. They all are mean to me, even though I didn't do anything. They are mean to mom and dad too. Mom always cried. That's why we will leave and go to a new place. That's why I wait all this time. Because they promised they will surely come for me. But... But they don't come. And then here... I was in flames...

"But they didn't come." Just needs to be in the past tense to make it agree with "I was in flames..." (Also jeez, poor Alicia... :gonk::supaburn:)

quote:

It was hot ... So hot ... I've heard mom and dad voices from outside. They both cried. I wanted to come to them. But I couldn't move. And then flames were gone. And I waited. But... Mom and dad didn't come. And long time since then many people that are not from this village came. But when they saw me, they went away.

Ignoring the continuing tragedy of Alicia (poor kid...), it would be best to say "I wanted to go to them" since "go" implies heading towards a direction away from the speaker, while "come" implies heading in a direction towards the speaker. Fun fact: The Chinese language has these directional words too in the form of 来(lái) and 去(qù), so my previous struggling with how to understand these minor grammatical quirks came in handy when trying to explain the differences here, haha.

quote:

Why does everyone leave?

"Why does everyone leave me?" Just need to add "me" at the end to make it sound more natural, and that's it! I've noticed really good improvement from you, and I just want to say thank you for the hard work you've been doing for us! I've also seen the subtitles for the second video, so now those are up too! I'm not sure if you want to make a post about that since we're already coming to a close here, but if you do I can offer critique as always. Not too sure how much longer this thread is going to be here, so just in case...

If you keep the "So", it would be more grammatically correct to say "So. I'm Alicia." Spoken English doesn't really follow the rules we use to write it super well though, so no one will look askance at using a comma instead.

Not necessarily the case here. She said she's waiting for her parents because they have to come back, so she might be saying "But they aren't coming" as a sad statement and then going into the story of how she burned. Might have to go back to the Japanese to get it cleared up.

Missing here is that the first sentence should be "It was hot... So hot... I heard Mom and Dad's voices from outside."

Saying "I have heard mom and dad voices" is wrong for a few reasons. Firstly saying "I have heard" is how we relate an impersonal factoid. If you personally experienced it you never phrase it that way. Secondly it's not specific to her mom and dad. This could be any mom and any dad. If this was actually meant to be a bunch of adults and not specifically Alicia's parents, I'd use "parents' voices" or "the voices of parents" to avoid that awkward trailing possessive apostrophe on the end of parents.

I am sorry, the Japanese spilled out here, I guess. "So" in Japanese means, like, "Oh, so that is how it is! And I am Alicia". But this phrase seemed too long and I gave up maybe.

The problem here is that she sounds, like, 6 years old, and the word 'parents' is maybe too complex for a child, I thought.

It has become harder to deliver without proper portraits, so I thought I need to introduce the cast of part 1 and 2. Previous update will be edited too
Young Koudelka (as seen in manga): . Alicia: . Koudelka's mom: . Alicia's mom: . Villagers and the cart driver:

Here we go. Part 2, finally.

The second night: One more of me.

This child is not human.
Noooo!
A ghost. This child is a real ghost. But, when I noticed that it was already late. The growing flames, as if they were alive, burned the shed around me.
To the outside! No, the flames... I will die if I stay here. Die... That's right, I can die here. And go to the place where Mom and Dad are.
What, it can't be. She has foretold her father's death. This girl...
It is not a prophecy. This girl, this girl attracts death.
A death bringer
How scary! A cursed child.
A demon child!
We need to kill her! Right now!
I don't understand. Demon? Why? Why me?
Koudelka. My... Koudelka
Mama! I... why me?
It is the decision of the elders. We have to expel Koudelka from the tribe.
Expel! Go away!
Don't show yourself before us anymore!
Why can't we all be together? I don't need these powers. I don't want these powers. Why? Why? Don't cast me out.

9 years have passed since then. So long. I just lived all that time. There's been not a good thing at all. I am tired.

Help!
This voice... Who is it?
This girl doesn't know anything!
Is this..
... doesn't know anything!
Memories of that girl?
Please! Someone! This child!
A cursed child! We can't let her go!
Alicia! Alicia!
This girl..
Help!
She had powers people don't have. The villagers were scared and persecuted her. That's why they were going to run away. But, they couldn't. The villagers burned the shed where Alicia hid herself.
No...
No! I can't do anything! I can only watch. I can't do anything. <cries>
Don't leave me alone!
Don't leave me alone!
Papa, Mama..
please, everyone, don't cast me away.
Don't leave me alone!
It's me. This girl is me!

I didn't think. I embraced that girl without thinking. I didn't even care that my body burned.
Big sis...
That's right. You wanted to live, right? With everyone... You didn't want all these powers, right?
Don't go away. I don't want to be alone.
You are not alone. You are not alone.
Big sis...
I will be with you always. Please, save this girl! Dear God! I pray to you for the first time. God!
<exorcism sounds. Background noises vanish>
Koudelka... Koudelka.
Mama...
Koudelka...
Elaine? Am I still alive? But I was in flames. And my body is not burning anymore. Alicia?
She is not here. You have saved her.
I did?
... saved her ... With your power...
I did? I've saved Alicia? Did you know that? And is that why you've appeared before me?
No one but you...
And you are like that too? No one but me?
No one but you...

The sunrise came. Elaine's shape had disappeared in the morning light. And, around me, the shed was burnt down. As if it was so for ages. Tarnished by the years.

<The cart comes back for Koudelka>
Hey, Miss! So you are safe.
Why are you here?
I was worried, after all.
Thank you. But I'm all right. There was a cute ghost.
Cute? So it really was there?
I wonder... Also, could you do me a favor? There is a place I wish to go to.
Wait, yesterday you said to just go as far as I wish.
I just remembered something. So I've changed plans.
Hm. Whatever. Get on.
Thank you!
Where are we going?
To Wales.

Wales. The Nemeton monastery. The place where Elaine waits. My goal. I don't know what is waiting for me there, but I have no doubt anymore. Mama, I am sorry, I won't join you yet. There is a person who is waiting for me. Because now I know that my powers can save people.

It probably helped that Alicia's parents actually loved her, and were present during her short life. Lucky that Koudelka managed to survive somehow as an orphan because I'd imagine with her psychic power, she'd be far worse than Charlotte could ever be.

Everything is here is true, but the conversation about "so" as an end to a tangent reminds me of a certain famous German writer on the internet. It's correct, but almost impeccably so. It's very no-nonsense and to the point, while I think American English would go with "well" as you said or possibly even "well then" as a softer way to transition back on topic. Truth be told, part of me bringing this up is about how much I'm realizing how simple words can affect tone of voice, but the other part was just an excuse to link Ulrich Haarbürste, and his phenomenally dry humor. No regrets.

Nimsant posted:

To the outside! No, the flames... I will die if I stay here. Die... That's right, I can die here. And go to the place where mom and dad are.

Since mom and dad here are being used as proper nouns, they should be capitalized as Mom and Dad.

quote:

Papa, mama,

To be totally honest, you've been on the ball lately so I've been skipping over small critiques to use word contractions, or punctuation, but here I'll recommend changing it to "Papa, Mama..." Capitalization for the proper nouns Papa and Mama, and ellipses to denote the trailing tone of voice and incomplete sentences/thoughts. Commas can't be the end of sentences. Why, to do so would absolutely be,

...See? Gotcha, didn't I? ;)

quote:

Elaine? Am I alive? But I was in flames. And my body is not burning anymore. Alicia?

Optional critique: "Am I still alive?" For some reason, it's more common in daily life to use the phrase "still alive". It tends to pop up everywhere from news articles, casual speech (E.g. "I have no idea how I'm still alive after a 16-hour work shift. Oh god."), and even songs. This is all completely optional, and really just a bonus.

quote:

I did? I've saved Alicia? Did you know that? And that is why you've appeared before me?

Another optional critique: "And is that why you've appeared before me?" or "And that's why you've appeared before me?" Those are two most common ways that sort of question gets asked. The power of the word contraction "that's" really helps make it sound more flowing and natural.

quote:

I just remembered something. So I changed plans.

Another(!) super, totally optional critique: "So I've changed plans." Honestly, both that and "So I changed plans" work fine. Sometimes people would use the present perfect tense in a situation like that one, so you have the option too if you would like. :v: Thankfully, people would understand either way.

quote:

Wales. The Nemeton monastery. The place where Elaine waits. My goal. I don't know what is waiting for me there, but I have no doubt anymore. Mama, I am sorry, I won't go to you yet. There is a person who is waiting for me. Because now I know that my powers can save people.

Once more, I can only offer an optional choice in the form of an alternative way of phrasing things: "Mama, I'm sorry, (but) I won't get to you yet." "Go to" works as is, but if you want to know some more casual English, then sometimes you might also hear "get to". The difference in meaning is subtle in that "go to you" would just be in terms of directions, while "get to" has a bit of some nuances to exploit. It could mean both to reach someone/something, and also to finally get a chance to reach or do something long awaited. That's why in action movies, you might hear someone make a vow and say that they're going to get to someone (especially if the other person was responsible for something dastardly, like setting fire to a hometown, kidnapping one's family, or killing a dog in the case of John Wick). It need not be that dramatic, but yeah, with a little word choice you can add that nuance to the phrase. Right now it's just implied, which is good in itself. As a writer, I just like talking about word choice options too much... :sweatdrop:

And that's it! Didn't have much to talk about other than small things because you did very well here! It's been a pleasure being able to see this thing come together, and maybe help out in some small way.

For archival reasons, here's the complete Drama CD: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLzyAOrK9d6ZIKyd5sbzj8JGh4cuMxuUpt I'm going to be adding the captions over the next couple of days, but in the meanwhile I've added the translations in the comments too.
