We've also seen elves.. edit: dark myr, halflings, and skar have not been showing in any streams as of yet to my knowledge.

Not sure why they didn't just call them dark elves, and skar are obviously the iksar.

This is basically EQ1 recreated. If you hated EQ1 then you might as well move on. They already stated that there won't be instances and overcrowding will be handled the same way it was back in the day. Go somewhere else, wait, or create your own group and push others out. I think what has been said in all the streams I've watched is that the zones can now be gigantic unlike back when. So dungeons, etc will all be quite larger. When people post poo poo about this now days, thinking back, I feel like somehow we managed just fine. This is my last hope for bringing back something other than mmos where you roll your face across the keyboard and win.

DeathSandwich posted:I can understand why they want to do the 100% non instanced dungeons, but I really wish they would do like they did for the early EQ2 dungeons where most of it was non instanced, but the final encounter with the big bad was so a single group couldn't shut everyone else out of setting the big bad guy for hours at a time. If you watch their last video, in the one dungeon they showed that is pretty much complete. At the boss a giant door falls and locks you in with the boss. I'm not saying you can't cheese it and run in. But they are taking some steps to keep others out while your fighting the boss. That might just be that zone only as we have not really seen anything else. They have skills beside kick and bash, it uses stamina which regens. So you get to choose what you need to do but you can't just roll your face over the keyboard with 0.5s delays. I would say it looked like it took about 10 seconds to regen from 0. I think you could probably perform about 3 actions before 100% sta is used. Again all this just by watching the videos. Exp looks much higher than original EQ as well. No idea on hell levels.

The fact that there will be camps again is music to my ears. I don't get the issue with a group running a monopoly, since you have to actually fight to the boss which is not easy. The point of open world is to make items actually rare, and cause contention with other players. Just roll up and ks them, who cares. Edit: also unlike wow, back in eq good items were not always on the boss. For instance mage items dropped off of one type of mob, rogue might be on another. There were a lot of different bosses in the zones which dropped a rarity of gear. So the end boss quote unquote, might not even really be the best for your class. This thread.. I can't get any bosses because there are so many people camping them. No one is going to play this game because it's made for 50 year olds. Imagine when it's just a little bit of both and everything works out fine..

Minnesota Mixup posted:It's a generic fantasy hardcore MMO. There really isn't anything unique about it. There's nothing else like it on the market because companies know better than the waste money on it. I think it's not really because it's hardcore. I think most investors who have the money already got burned on the "My mmo I invested in didn't get wow subs in 2010 and I lost a poo poo ton of money". I don't think really anyone is investing in mmos currently which is why almost all of them are crowd funded. So being hardcore or not isn't really it. I don't think people who invest are wasting money on any mmo. I think the main reason the kickstarter failed was that this is post Star Citizen and Brad has a not all that good rep. I had money to piss away and didn't back because he had no game to show and I was already around for Vanguard, and really EQ. Where as now he has a decent game to show and from what I can tell, pretty competent devs now working there. Times change.. I don't know that I believe him anymore now than before. But I certainly can tell Joppa is a drat good dev and in charge of most everything.

With everything I've looked into.. I think this is the realistic state of the game. Currently there are two continents that we know of. The plan is to complete the first by end of pre-alpha or Jan 1 2019. Next alpha will run for 6 months and beta for probably 6. They want to finish the second continent during this next year. Then release the game. They continue to claim they are in absolutely no rush. While we don't know the background financials, it seems like they have enough money and runway for at least another 6-12 months. I believe they stated somewhere (a slip) that they had around 800 players in pre-alpha. When I last checked the now cheapest pre-alpha entrance was $1k (original $2.5k?) which puts them at $800k+ in funds + other private backing. That should last them at least a year from the pre-alpha sales point which started in december of last year. They have a small dev team compared to others sure, but from what I can tell most of the devs are actually decent at what their doing. This will slow progress with a smaller team but they are not planning on having 70 zones I'm rather sure. I also think we heard from someone who leaked that 10-12 zones are already built but maybe not complete. I think these are all the human continent zones from watching many streams. It was either Joppa or Convo who stated that they were optimizing zones as they went. From what I can tell this indeed seems to be the case as players were getting 60+ frames in huge areas of the world (seen in a cohh video + jimlee). I believe we know that pre alpha 3? will add new classes (paladin+ranger) and possibly finish up others starting zones (halfling, elves, humans). They continue to state that the starting cities are gray textured for now. If they run out of money at worst case scenario you get the human continent with around 15+ completed zones. With continued funds they do seem to have a clear plan of completing zones and moving on to the next. This can be seen with the two dungeons so far. Pretty much feature complete for release (from Convo). So if we take the better scenario and it continued to not explode in an oxy whirlpool we get a mostly complete game in another 1.5 years. They don't have any feature creep from what I can see and Joppa has specifically stated this is not something that is going to happen as they have a planned feature list which is all very realistic (I have seen no features added since 2014-15). They are after all aiming to remake a game and feel from 20 years ago. Some other thoughts as I have followed this games progress over at the foh boards since 2014.. I can't imagine how Brad didn't give up after the kickstarter failed and all the weird poo poo in 2014-15. I guess it speaks to something that he didn't and continued to stick with this and managed to push forward to 2018 now with a rather decent looking game working with almost no funds. While I still can't say I trust him or anyone with a funded mmo. That probably shows more dedication than most considering he had basically no funds and somehow has made this work where as SC has millions and it's a complete dumpster fire.

He somehow got over that and is just playing a warrior now. Personal growth I guess?

On the flip side brad isn't yet selling castles for $10k like crowfall. Perhaps this is a blunder on their backing.. I also crated a discord which I'm going to populate with information and poo poo. Feel free to join and discuss why this game is going to crash and burn in real time. Probably a bit early, but might as well have one. https://discord.gg/8rGarKm Ehud, feel free to add it to the op, thanks.

I would say it's really been in development for around 2 years. There were a number of things that happened way back (failed kickstarter, getting private funding, etc) which slowed all development down. I think all the things you really see are from around 2016 and on. The old unity code might be from back then but I think most parts have been recreated. All races will have a starting home it has been said, though looking on the world map I fail to see that.

Ehud, that's pretty much what I said in a previous post. Lots of time's you'll hear him say, oh yeah right. That tells me he's not actually doing the active day to day development which Joppa is. Honestly, Joppa gives me good hope that they will release something, pretty much all the devs I've talked to are on the ball.

It's going to be a mix of Albion Online crafting, and Conan. We all know how well those games turned out. I only spent a week making this silver axe and got shot in the back of the head by an indian and died. OR You died from contracting malaria ..

The game is for people who want to explore and not just pull out a map. There is no end game here so if your rushing it you are doing it very wrong.
