Like not take your money buying tires because you have a wheel stud snapped? No, they'll still take it. And then try and sell you a stud replacement for $200. If you're that worried about it, take the wheels in separately in another car. (because they'll snap another stud for you, anyway...) Weight lifting is hard and hard on my body. I'm sticking to lighter stuff and never deadlifting again. Have enough back and hip issues as is. Also weight is lost at the dinner table, not at the gym. Cheer up, bro.

CAT INTERCEPTOR posted:did you miss my point lifting heavy things is not only done by older people but it also is good for you? Since we're throwing out anecdotes, old people at my gym don't lift heavy weights, usually they just cardio and very light stuff. Often very odd looking "exercises" with free weights that make me scratch my head. Even with good form, lifting heavy isn't for me. Christ, my hips are already metal and I've already had one back surgery. Granted, none of that was from weight lifting but as I get older, I'm trying to take it easier on my body since it's already past its prime (still only 32 currently, haha) and not going to get any better as I age. You can still do resistance training without it, and that's good enough to make me huff and puff.

Anybody have podcast recommendations? I think somebody did an effort post (MGS maybe?) on this sometime back. I've just started listening to them so I haven't listened to much. So far I like the ESPN 30 for 30s, and Serial. I couldn't get into Lore despite being a nerd. Same for a video game podcast I tried.

I know it's not a real world 54.5mpg avg, but I've heard conflicting reports of one the hand the manufacturers were beating the increases needed every year, while on the other people have said the incremental increases weren't going to be sustainable. On an internal combustion engine? Yeah probably but then the only thing that would be sold would be 3 and 4 cylinders in everything with a displacement <2 liters. As said, the market isn't there for the high price of hybrids/electrics since gas is cheap. You can regulate whatever the gently caress you want but you can't control what people want to buy. If we put 1.5L turbo engine in a larger SUV, America would just buy something else and pay the gas guzzler tax. There's been a lot invested in assuming the current regulation was going to be the thing though. I don't think it'll really change a whole lot at my company personally since I think everyone already sees that electric is the eventuality.

It's not a great story, but I went into the MTB thread with an issue on my new bike: the crank kept falling off. People were big condescending meanies to me about it when I was asking for advice on what to check since I reinstalled and it happened again. I got a new one and eventually took it to a bike shop who didn't find anything weird with the bike except the BB was a little loose, and they reinstalled. I've only ridden it a few times since but it hasn't come off again (yet). I posted that picture in the thread when trying to get advice.

I'm really embarrassed. Luckily it's on a bolt-on part and not in the engine block. Good lesson right before I do the water pump which is held on with the same size bolts in a very difficult location. Do not over-tighten. Before I knew how to work on cars I used a 1/2" drive wrench to tighten a 10mm valve cover bolt. Learned that lesson pretty early. Those ones usually will come back out pretty easy vs. a seized bolt at least.

I think I'm more looking forward to the next (original) Star Wars trilogy that's hopefully unconnected to the rest. Then they'll have a bit more fun with it and have new ideas (I hope). That said, I still enjoyed the the latest ones (Rogue One probably the most because it was different) despite them being flawed.
