So it’s a prequel with copy/pasted bits from the original? What is going on.

There's a couple million suckers (I mean poo poo, I live in SoCal, every few days you run into one of those zombies) who would bite on that, though I guess not all their poo poo has been selling like hot cakes.

"“Mufasa: The Lion King” enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature schtick. Told in flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny—their bonds will be tested as they work together to evade a threatening and deadly foe."

To be fair though I was under the impression that this was done because Moana 2 was exceeding expectations so they pivoted to a single movie release instead of a show. (Which has me excited since Moana is the best modern Disney animated film)

I don't know about the quality but they released it the same day as Wicked, which is going to be a juggernaut so I guess you can come to your own conclusions on the why.

None of the songs are written by lin manuel miranda. They got Dwayne Johnson but...he's an easy get these days

Not anymore, apparently.

How close to 100% are the chances that this "Taka" is Scar, and Mufassa somehow gains the throne due to Taka doing something terrible, being cast out, and gaining his scar (both on his face and as a new name) and a bitter anger towards his once "brother"? I'm going with exactly 100%.

Mufassa has to stop Taka from doing something horrible, fights him, scars his face. Taka becomes an outcast, "This is what you made me..." blah blah blah.

Right? So why can Scar feel jilted? Are they not brothers by blood? Is Scar the *actual* rightful king?

Obviously none of this actually matters since even the CG remake was so lifeless, but still...

It's so stupid cuz word to the Apes series, Hollywood can make a cgi monkey emote and be compelling but I guess Disney can't make a "live action" lion king that doesn't look like AI made it.

Taka is in fact Scar, which means this is either a giant retcon to Lion King lore (lol) or the live action movies are a different timeline. Really stupid either way.

The Apes movies are Disney, bro.

Feels like Disney the parent company hasn't known what it is doing since the mid 90s, they've made some big purchases which brought audiences but their general mismanagement seems to inevitably creep in (quicker in some cases than in others). I think Pixar is their only brand that's maintained its prestige somewhat.

It's funny to see people convinced they're on the verge of bankruptcy "because of woke" though. In the very unlikely event Disney ever goes down it'll be because of a series of terrible bets on unprofitable tech and/or the general collapse of living standards, not whatever the mush-brained gently caress nuts on YouTube are obsessed with.

The movie and main character is known as Vaiana in most European countries. I guess it was too hard to check for those trademarks sooner for a billion dollar corporation!

Oh, I didn't know that was already a thing (Taka being Scar's original name). I was just guessing.

The whole movie seems pretty obvious now, and even more pointless than it already was.

Well, the apes are actually talking to humans though. I generally assumed if a human came across the lions, they would just hear growling.
