I have a pirated theatrical print scan of Se7en, I have no need for whatever do-over bullshit Fincher is doing yet again.

I dread to think what the storage requirements would be for an 8K film, and I don't think the physical media even exists that could hold a single 8K film aside from shipping films on USB sticks, and that would be cost prohibitive. Plus there's no films being shot on 8K digital, aside from scanning in shot-on-IMAX films and there's about 10 of those. Give us less compressed Blu-rays/4Ks first please.

I just really like when 4K hits that perfect film grain. The Shining is a killer example. It really feels like being in a theater when it looks like that.

A couple months ago they announced the creation of an optical storage disc that can hold 125 terabytes, so I wouldn't worry about it.

8k is a thing that exists for VR stuff, which is basically 4k per eye from how I understand it. In that context, it is a very noticeable difference compared to 4k VR videos.

Man, trying to justify this https://viavision.com.au/shop/the-prisoner-the-complete-series-1967-imprint-television-6/ It's not on streaming AT ALL in Australia, and it makes me wonder why. They're coming out with a remake movie, and this place even has the 2009 Jim Caviezel version. Also the number of the issue of Imprint Television is *on point*

$106, just $6.23 an episode Companies like Imprint really are trying for the Vinyl Market Blowout speed run.

FWIW, scanning in 8K makes sense as you want to capture as much as possible and have more to work with on the way to a final 4K master. They scanned The Searchers in "dual 6.5K" because the VistaVision negative had shrunken badly and also was badly faded to the point where they had to digitally merge the blue color separation to replace the missing color information. Coolest thing is that they actually had a final 6.5K master that was recorded out to 65mm to make a new negative and a few prints. https://www.in70mm.com/presents/1954_vistavision/1956_searchers/restoration/index.htm

I was wandering through walmart the other day and noticed (1) all of their "expensive" physical media was in a locked case (2) there is a full series set for Family Matters (3) the full series set for Family Matters costs $75 (3) walmart has a pretty small selection of "expensive" physical media but stocks the full series set of Family Matters really made me consider my place in the universe

The Walmart TV box set section is a hell of a thing "Complete series" sets of things you'd never expect but suddenly find yourself considering. If any of that poo poo came with digital copies I'd probably do it.

Every time I go I have to fight myself not to buy the Seinfeld DVD set and I can't lie if I found the Twin Peaks Blu-Ray set in the wild at Walmart I would absolutely splash out. I nearly bought the Cowboy Bebop series set last time I was there just because. Instead I got The Iron Claw because it's what I was actually there for.

I saw the complete series of Ed Edd n Eddy there and immediately said that's coming home. Didn't look at the price then, haven't googled the price now, don't care. Kid me waited over a decade for that, it's worth every cent anybody was willing to ask for it

No but after the show I met a cool gig photographer who just gave me several large (12x18, 16x24) prints and the Nunnery was quite generous with her CDs Funny you mention Eaux Claires because the photog and I spent a moment discussing it as we've both shot Justin Vernon at different times. Sadly I never attended the festival and it's definitely over now...
