now that the two bad neighbors episode is on the free stream i just want to double down on my response to the dweeb who was crying about it...

its probably the best TS episode ever and between this and checking out 3 different futurama podcasts i really appreciate the quality of TS. its good to see them thriving after losing the dead-weight

what dead weight? Chris Antista?

Edit 1: I liked Chris and didn't perceive dead weight in TS; this was asked to get clarification

Edit 2: Reflecting in 2019, I've definitely changed my mind here. Hope that Bob & Henry eventually rerecord every episode that had Chris (including Talking Critic), like Matt Jay did for his Eva show after JDB went nuts

We're at our max workload right now but if we reach $11000 (and we probably will at some point) we'll do a second mini-series this year following Talking Futurama.

Understandable, you guys actually prepare(!!!) for each show

FYI, your stuff fills the void left by It's That Episode. Comedian Craig Rowin would watch a single ep of any TV show with his comedian/showbiz guest, though they intentionally did no research before watching. (Lots of UCB people including James Adomian)

I reread the old posts here and want to give props to Bob & Nina for guesting on the Sneaky Dragon podcast. Great anecdotes and insights on drawing comics, recording & engineering podcasts, and justifying crossovers to Matt Groening (D&D Rules Lawyer style). The end is a bit melancholy because you discuss submitting work to MAD, which makes me appreciate podcasts as cultural time capsules

Curious about your editing style Bob: Roughly how much do you keep in from on-topic discussion audio? Getting a phone call or flubbing a line should go (and you do a drat good job there), but it seems like you cut seconds from dialogue that would have been kept in on a rawer (lazier) podcast. The audio magnitude clips up & down slightly like a Youtuber teleporting inches between takes. It's actually reassuring to notice because the product you guys create is dense while still feeling like a natural conversation, but my Editor nerd side has to ask

We edit pretty rigorously, not to the point where we're cutting out every breath and "uhh," but we do remove anything that could interrupt the flow of the podcast or reflect poorly on us. Things like pauses that are too long, flubbing a line or a joke, leaving a lingering question (Henry and I hate doing this because inevitably every comment will involve someone answering that question), pausing to look something up, sirens and helicopter noises, etc. Things have been so busy for us that we now have an outside editor that edits 3-5 episodes a month, but thankfully they're highly skilled and stick to our house rules.

Thanks man. The episodes with Matt & Virgil sound better than most Google Hangouts and that must have taken ages switching between audio tracks. Free joke: use your recording of Matt for that classic yelling-into-a-tin-can feel

If you do just a What a Cartoon on it, i'd recommend Unemployment part 2. There's a lot of stuff anyone who's had trouble finding meaningful employment can identify with. I also have a strong emapthy with Andy with their best friend having some fancy high paying job they seemed to have just fallen into. I have friends who are doctors, lawyers, Game developers (at one of the lesser evil companies) and other "real jobs" while i'm slaving away at service jobs.

It was a good call to post your PAX panel recording! The audio was rough but by using monitor headphones I heard everything, and the event was a great experience even for someone listening at home

In my fan opinion, PAX was incredibly unprofessional for not recording this as a matter of course, to the point that I assume they treat your tier of presenters as second-class TEDX nobodies. F that! Your listeners are more important then their oblivious walk-in crowds for big-name "Important Acts". We are always excited to hear stuff like this or Sketchfest

From the Patreon they're thinking of going back and redoing the earlier Lasertime episodes. I mean, I enjoy the pod enough I wouldn't mind, but some other patrons seem to think this is to hold of on doing the the future episodes.

Yes, do that, or more Futurama/KotH, hell even Family Guy. They can't admit it but it's a waste of their skill to annotate newer seasons because the writers didn't create something dense or self-consistent, just joke vehicles

I've been laughing at the latest eps because the jokes are still funny but that cliff is creepin' up

Loving this accidentally raw Retronauts, Bob. It's a good template for how a "successful" podcast might sound before editing. It flows much more naturally than the amplitude-clipping-youtube-cut-party of polished files, which matters for parasocial fandom

I edit podcasts so I sound 300% sharper and funnier than I actually am. If there's time I extend the same courtesy to our guests.

Thanks for doing that, I love the density of produced episodes as their own thing (and didn't think about how you're helping the guests too). I meant that for a specific type of fan (maybe posting here) a less-edited track has appeal of its own, maybe a whole Patreon tier. Your produced voice has gone up in enthusiasm and confidence over the years and that's great for a standalone product. But those little moments of moving the mike, asking Nina and Jeremy questions, and speaking in a conversational voice all appeal to fans chasing that parasocial podcaster-as-friend feeling.

After typing this, I see why you might not want those weirdos. Don't worry, I promise to not find your house and put you in a Misery scenario

I believe this episode of Mission Hill is one of the best artworks ever made about being unemployed while striving for a specialist job. It's also a funny & well told story with a satisfying character arc which is too rare nowadays in the US. When you guys eventually get to the series I vote for this (but every episode is great too)
