For those who got the first issue, did you get it physical or digital? Did anything in particular stand out as great/terrible or is it just a decent comic?

Yeah, it's cool to see the new villains get more characterization.

I wonder if Starline is playing Eggman for his own game or if he'll end up being the flunky who's more competent than his boss.

Read the new issue, things are still steadily moving toward a climactic moment of Sonic's infection finally getting the better of him. I doubt it will, but they're doing a fine job of acting like it could.

I wonder how Gemerl is going to dealt with seeing as the virus can't infect him. Either a mutation makes it so it does, or he just gets torn apart by a mob of zombots.

So the main book was only a 'meanwhile...' with the fall of Restoration HQ story, which is honestly pretty disappointing. On the other hand, the new issue of Tangle & Whisper goes into Whisper's backstory with the Diamond Cutters and is heading toward its climax pretty handily. It's turning out a lot better than I would have thought based on the first issue. The fact that it's not an impostor hero story makes it sit better with me.

Even though nobody is actually dead, there’s going to be all sorts of trauma to sort through in the end. Those are the stakes we’re dealing with here. Cream is hosed up now, and it’d be one hell of a cop out to walk that back. Thank you for the Christmas present, Ian. Depression is my favorite.

Honestly the Archie series was much more uneven than these, but that's to be expected given that they started back when the Sonic franchise had fewer characters and elements to build on. It definitely picked up when Ian Flynn was made head writer, and he's done a pretty good job of maintaining the quality of the new series as well. Then again I'm already used to original characters not in the games from the Archie series and the cartoons. Discendo Vox posted:

There are three sonic dash games at this point:

Sonic Dash is the original, a very straightforward three lane endless runner that's got a bunch of characters and ~4 concurrent progression systems, but is very fair and even- you will not feel much pressure to pay anything if you don't want to. Unlockable areas are mostly cosmetic, and almost all unlockable characters have only negligible stat differences; Big the Cat's shields last a bit longer than Metal Sonic, but Metal's magnet power lasts longer than Big's, etc. Periodic events let you unlock characters for free, and they're actually very doable with a bit of practice. Tangle and Whisper will probably come here eventually; almost all new characters are now introduced in Sonic Forces, then available in Sonic Dash a bit later on.

Sonic Dash 2: Boom is a sequel set in the Sonic Boom setting- it stopped getting new content after about six months, leaving the prices and XP curve in a very weird place that was intended to support a much more extensive game. Also a three lane endless runner. This game has a "sprite" system of permanent and one time boosts, and a short list of cycling events that you compete with a leaderboard and with basic goal numbers to win ascending prizes of rings and XP. The challenges and completion prices for things in this game are absurd; leveling up one character or sprite takes 300,000 rings, and, with the hyperoptimized method I've developed that relies on a set of already maxed sprites, I can get 10k rings only on a very good run. Event prizes are similarly trivial for the effort involved. Maxing every character and sprite costs millions of rings; the XP system caps at level 100 and is even more absurdly unbalanced. Tangle and Whisper aren't going to come to this game.

Sonic Forces is a multiplayer racing game built off of the endless runner construct. It's absurdly complex and introduces like five additional currencies and levels and special events and leagues and unlocks and boosts and special use items...I've not touched it because it's almost entirely competitive, but my impression is that since it's competitive, there's much more emphasis on pay to progress/win. Tangle and Whisper are being promoted as coming here.

Hey, thanks for this write-up! We finally upgraded our phones, and I've been playing and enjoying Sonic Dash and Forces. I'd say you're spot on with Dash, but Forces isn't that complex. The only in-game currencies are Cards(for unlocking and upgrading characters), Gold Rings(for paying for upgrades when you have enough cards), and Red Star Rings(the most important, for buying Gold Rings and opening chests for Cards without waiting for hours). Gameplay wise I haven't seen any issues with pay to win given that character upgrades are kind of minimal compared to keeping a good line and dodging obstacles. Maybe that gets worse at higher levels, though.

Cards and Gold Rings come easily enough, especially if you take the reward doubling ads every time they're available. My real problem with Forces is how stingy it is with Red Star Rings. You get maybe 7-12 of them in free chests a day, assuming you check regularly and don't lose out because your two free chest slots are full. The silver victory chests can be unlocked by watching an ad, but otherwise you need at least 80 RSR to unlock a gold or above unless you wait for hours to reduce the cost and can only have one chest counting down at a time. If you want to maximize your prizes without spending a lot of money, you get maybe 4 or 5 races at a time before you have to wait for hours to clear your four victory chest slots. I like the gameplay a lot, but only playing about 7 minutes or so at once counting loading and ad watches is a drag. I'm also annoyed that Tangle is just not as good as other characters because she doesn't have a mine item.

I can see that, good luck!

Is it the Dash Boost? That happened to me too, the next upgrade was 84,004 when all the others at that level were only 8,400. It feels like a bug, I sent a support e-mail about it so I guess we'll see if they do anything.

In Forces news, I just unlocked Whisper and she's bananas. Her standard projectile fires in front and behind her, her mine fires a projectile first before hanging in place, giving it two chances to hit and it can't hit you, and her dash lets her fly at will as long as it's active. It's such a contrast from Tangle!

I'll agree with being wary of Sonic's amnesia, but I'll see where it goes/how long it lasts before I'll call it bad. Is anyone else here playing Sonic Forces? Once I made it to 4,500 trophies, races suddenly became a lot less fun because for some reason when I get hit, I come to a dead stop and drop to 4th no matter what hits me or how well I was doing before.
