That's a terrible picture. Perry actually looks pretty good for his age, just not so much in direct sunlight.

He looks terrible and way overboard on plastic surgery. Plus his voice is shot.

That being said - if you can put that behind you it'll be a good show.

E: For some reason their Loll2020 Porno for Pyros video is down. That's when I first saw Farrell and I was like what the gently caress did you do.

It's probably one of the most important, life shaping albums for people who were teenagers at the time. I read those lyrics like a novel in my room.

Billy's voice is a huge part though or it's not the same band. Same with like Rush, Mercyful Fate/King Diamond, Primus to name a few. A lot of bands you can kinda shoehorn anyone in but not here. I got to speak with Les Claypool in a Q+A a couple weeks back for their tour doing "A Farewell to Kings" in its entirety and he told me the hardest part wasn't learning the music - they all nailed it but it was singing similar to Geddy which stumped him. His regular singing voice just didn't really fit too well and he had to emulate it as best he could.

The mix on the drums sounds so bad. Riff is kinda weak too - no fuzz or oomph. Maybe it'll play better live but not off to a good start.

Chili Peppers were solid gold up until Frusciante left the second time. Josh couldn't really fill those shoes. The new album though is very stinky but this 2nd album's lead single is actually fairly decent.

Weezer tho... yeah, blue album is a stone cold classic. Pinkerton has its fans but when the best thing you've done in a long time is a State Farm ad then

One Hot Minute was my main introduction to the band. :3: I loving ADORE that album and yeah, it's a shame we didn't get more - Dave was such a good fit IMO. I of course knew of BSSM and the hits but OHM came out in my formative years and just stuck with me. For my other friend it was huge too and they became his favorite band. He discovered Frusciantes solo work and became a lifelong fan - made a fansite then got discovered to admin the main site when "Record Only Water for 10 Days" came out. Got to meet John for that then when By The Way came out they flew us in and we got to meet the entire band after the show and chill for a half hour listening to Johns demo of his new album. But Flea is weird - he wouldn't shake our hands as he said he just washed and I was like... ok. Seems he controls everything like a Sharon Osborne.

Not sure what Anthony is doing now though - his singing is all hosed up. Black Summer is loving terrible with that weird slip into an Irish accent. I didn't mind his new direction on Californication, BTW and Stadium - but this feels too far. Plus his older singing voice is just way better. Soul to Squeeze is nearly perfect. Don't know why he got away from singing like that.

...sorry for going off topic so hard :3: RHCP is a huge band in my life.

My wife's sister has been huge into them for decades now. Around 2001, she was one of the admins/higher ups of the Rockinfreakapotamus fan club. She helped organize fan tours and all that, and she and a friend actually went to Blackie (Anthony's dad)'s place to hang out. Apparently nothing creepy happened when she was there.

She might know my (ex)friend. :3: I miss fan clubs like that. He got a signed picture of Anthony in a cast by a truck. Like, just some random rear end photo his friend must have took then printed at a photo place.

Scar Tissue is a crazy autobiography if anyone wants to read it. Kiedis had a mondo hosed up life up until the very end of the book. Blackie basically took Anthony to coke houses and he was having sex with adults if I recall correctly when he was like 13.

Trip Report?

So I didn't hate that. In terms of set lists, it was heavy on later material but dude DOES have a new releases imminent. Plus, he already went deep in the nostalgia on that last major tour.

Nothing from Gish was surprising. "We Only Come Out at Night" was probably the deepest cut from left field, even more bizarre that it shows up like three songs in to a twenty song show.

Chamberlain is a beast. "Silverfuck" was a super pleasant surprise and is still as blistering as ever. He pulls out a bizarro "Once in a Lifetime" cover that owes more to Sabbath than post-punk. That was definitely a thing. "Beguiled" was goofy as hell since it got played live while that ridiculous video plays in the background with eerie precision.

Still, I feel like Houston got shafted. Opening show was in Dallas, and they got "If There Was a God" and "X.Y.U" to close out the show. He just ended with a new mostly unfamiliar track here.

We missed a chunk of the Jane's Addiction set. Caught a really tasty "Ted, Just Admit It" though. They had exotic dancers writhing and dancing for most of their set. We felt cheated that Corgan didn't bring out wrestlers to taunt the crowd.

What's the merch situation like?

My one interaction with Flea he seemed like a primadonna and wouldn't let me shake his hand as he just washed... i think? it was about 20 years ago. The rest of the band were chill as gently caress though. Chad Smith and I just sat together listening to John's new upcoming album.
