I'm watching this without having read the manga, and I'm enjoying it.

I like how Asirpa shows a silly side around Retar in this episode. I get the impression that her super-serious attitude is partially a front. This is sort of confirmed when she says "So I keep my distance, so I don't get too attached." (Referring to bear cubs, but it's hard not to suspect she has a similar attitude toward Sugimoto).

Not a fan of Episode 11; I was looking forward to the temporary shift to an indoor setting, but it tapped into some transphobic tropes while relying too much on campy horror movie logic.

Crain posted:

It's just based on HHHolmes and his murder hotel.

They didn't try to blame Ienaga's crimes on them being trans, if anything the focus is on their obsession with Chinese medicine as the reason they murder people (to eat the parts they want to "absorb").

It's still tied into wanting to change her body, though...

It was a bit odd to have two Psycho/Silence of the Lambs pastiche episodes so close together, but they ended up going in pretty different directions. I like that, despite all the serial-killer tropes, Edogai doesn't seem to have actually killed anyone. I also liked that he introduced a new twist to the tattooed skins plot instead of being just a throwaway villain.

It turns out the kitsune fortuneteller isn't just a character of the week either. Not sure how I feel about having her around in a story that previously didn't have anything so overtly supernatural.
