The layout of reddit loving sucks and if you hate puns boy you better stay the gently caress away. Also it's a race to the top if you want to have people even see your posts so you basically have to play the game if you don't want to waste your time. On the other hand, some of the subreddits are loving awesome content aggregates to the point that it's saddening when you find one with no/little activity. This doesn't actually happen a whole lot. I was kinda bummed their subreddit on roof gardens was so sparse.

The worst parts of reddit are kinda by design. It’s a microcosm of the real world, most of which is chaotic, insular and unfunny. But likewise it has some good specialized subreddits, moderated to keep out the masses.

As long as you treat the site in general as a link aggregator rather than a platform for discussion or activism then you're fine. There are definitely people who self-identify as 'redditors' which is a pretty good indicator that someone has nothing going on in their life.

Speaking of food, r/gifrecipes is great. Inevitably almost all gifrecipes created are loving terrible and you get to make fun of the idiots that thought it was such a good recipe. Like everything ever posted by Tasty. r/food is a bad subreddit and I'm pretty sure they banned me at one point for critiquing someone's food.
