As a pyro nut, I say cook up a nice simple smoke bomb (saltpeter and sugar--real easy) with a fuse ignited with a model rocket igniter wired straight to the power cord. A toilet paper tube worth will do it, you could use a paper towel sized one if you feel saucy. You can pour them to any shape you want. Probably won't burn his house down, but should make him think twice about snaffling electronics from the bin.

I had an idea. Put a big box over your garbage and hold one end up with a stick. Tie a sting around the stick and when the thief goes for the garbage pull the string so the box falls down trapping him.

Turns out the real Gift of the Magi was a 60 inch flat panel smart tv that just needed a new power inverter the same power inverter that was sent via cargo carrier to be recycled! Turns out they were both bald all along.

Also lol @ the idea of this being our main source of income - not even close.

Lotta votes in the arson column, I like the spicy options that shouldn't lead to criminal damage but might. Thing is with no guarantee they'll take it home you should just rig up some poo poo like that dude did with door package thieves; rig a shotgun shell to go off when they pick it up.
