I could be wrong but I think Xhaka, Mustafi and Perez were all signed mainly on stats for some reason.

I’ll own up to rating him pre-Arsenal. Liverpool was pursuing him for a while I was mad we didn’t get him. I think Xhaka was being touted as a great defensive midfielder that summer.
