Spider-Girl was really something in that it was a very long follow up to the Clone Saga, something everyone was supposed to hate with a passion.

I have a theory that it would be possible to edit the Clone Saga into something that's about a third as long and actually pretty good. Within that horrible mess there's actually a bunch of decent Spider-Man comics.

I will say reading on tablets takes a lot of the fun out of double page spreads. I think it's increased use is going to make artists and writers think about how to use vertical space.

Check out the Darkside of the Industry thread for more details, but long story short, Waid criticised a terrible, racist person for being terrible and racist. Waid started getting a lot of abuse and went offline, which he's done in the past.

Oh yeah, and the terrible racist person was doxxing female comic book store workers, which has lead to massive harassment against women.

I wouldn't worry too much, Disney will probably buy Warner Brothers in the next decade and then the rights issues with a reprint will be a lot easier.

Disney acquired Marvel in 2009. A decade earlier would have been 1999, right after they were coming out of bankruptcy? People bit because there was a battle to figure out who would acquire Marvel after Perelman ruined its financials, and people did in fact buy it. The idea that Marvel was less appealing an asset in 1999 after a decade of mismanagement than it would be in 2009 on the heels of a decade of blockbuster films based on their IP (and a self-produced second biggest film of 2008) doesn't seem that bizarre or surprising.

The time is not correct (I'm old enough now that I often forget how long ago the 90's were) but wasn't whoever the owner was at the time trying to sell off Marvel somewhere in the mid 90's, right after the comics crash? They ended up selling off movie rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and a whole bunch of other poo poo instead.

My original point that when Marvel and Lucasfilm were bought by Disney, they weren't thought of as things being for sale is still true I think.
