I don’t get the people that hate how they have to pay for 2.0 I guarantee that these people would still spend close to $100 on any wave that gets released that would have supposedly “fixed” ships in 1.0. Each wave has just been new ships that push pilots and other ships away.

The conversion kits will most likely let me sell off my scum ships that I don’t touch at all. Then I can use that money to buy empire and Rebel kits.

I’m so goddamned pumped over this still. I got in December of 2015 with the TFA core and went in hard. Problem was a lot of ships I wanted to fly were woefully outclassed, which was frustrating that a game called X-Wing has X-Wings as a ship be such rear end. For those that were around when X-Wing was first announced back in 2012, was that what this is like? Excitement over the rules and gameplay?

Listen, when are we getting the Ewok pilot, or Erisi Dlarrit?

I wish I was around for Wave 1 with just the basic ships. That’s what I love about the direction 2.0 is taking, with maneuvering being very important along with actions. Combat seems more brutal where the matches are over quicker. Imagine 30minute matches rather than the slog of 75 minutes. Especially against a fortress or someone who just continually boosts out of range.

We have a resident quad Wookiee guy and then of course a lot of Ghost+Fenn players with a sprinkling of Nym+Miranda and then whatever holds a lot of Harpoon Missiles. I havent played a real game in a while but I’m going to wait it out where I can until 2.0. Maybe when I get Saws Renegades and the Reaper I’ll jump into some 1.0 games but overall September cannot get here fast enough.

Here’s to hoping that with all the ships, they’ll be equally terrible in a way that they blow up easily so that a meta is hard to develop. Like having a squad of B-Wings Y-Wings has as much as a chance to win as a whole list of TIEs swarming about.

Huxley posted:If you showed up to a store-level event playing TIE/FOs as 2.0 TIE/lns, do you think anyone would notice or care? I doubt anyone really would unless the TO or tournament people, or even league people were assholes. I do recall one guy getting mad that someone painted their T-70 to look like a stock T-65, and when it did a T-Roll it led to a discussion of “being shady to trick people”.

I can see putting a T-65s wings and engines on a T-70 body, or modifying a G1A to look like a K-Wing being an issue. Paint jobs I think are cleared as OK since the physical model isn’t modified.

Just realized something with the conversion kits containing the cardboard and dials and cards for ships: yeah I’m paying $50 but I’m technically gaining ships, all I’d need is to buy the models. For example I just need models for the rebels: 1 A-Wing 1 ARC 1 E-Wing 2 Ghosts 1 HWK 1 each of Phantoms 3 Z-95s If I wanted to be really cheap, I don’t need the models for practice, I now have the bases and dials and cardboard and pilots for them. Basically, these kits are going to save me money to purchase more ships. I can avoid the ship packs and go right for the models, which my local game store sells for a few dollars each.

I’m starting up a Heroes of the Aturi Cluster and will just play that til 2.0. I also hear there’s a fan-made “1.5” that allows you to play with some of the stuff known from the 2.0 demos, so I might go looking for that to practice with.

Tomorrow at noon is the reveal of what’s in the conversion kits. I’m hoping that a lot of what is revealed is generally balanced as best as possible with cards and abilities that are unique and not “auto includes”

Chemmy posted:Also some of the new models are dope. X-wings have moving foils, Y-wing model looks way better, etc. I ordered the new Y-Wing specifically because of the new model. My Y-Wings have wimpy nacelles. As for the conversion kit, you can also sell off models to offset the cost, or take advantage of getting the cardboard and dials for ships you don’t have by just buying models. I don’t have a Ghost but I can nab one for cheap I’m sure. For cards, I just hope that the packs they’re in are for those ships only. While I get that upgrades are going to be for faction only in the packs, I wouldn’t want to buy a garbage fighter just to use its cards.

I think the best thing they can do is reveal enough to get games going via proxy. Maybe, just maybe, they’ll release the app too or the rules/pricing.

thespaceinvader posted:There's definitely a lot to like here, but Luke crew and the YT2400 are *really* concerning. I was worried too but remember we don’t know point costs yet. Also, the benefit of how evade dice and evades work will hurt the larger ships. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of ways for ships to mitigate insane amounts of damage anymore. Lone wolf only works once a round, reinforce can only cancel down damage to a minimum of one, etc. I know Dash or a Falcon was part of a two-ship list, but with how things are trending, two ship lists might be too weak to handle larger numbered lists.

I think they honestly did think of a lot of ways to try and do the update. They know the game needed a change and this may be the cheapest and most effective. They could have went a route of using an app that would change the cards but it’d be a lot to track and reference. Then the cardboard changes could have been done with stickers but good freaking luck with how some people can accurately apply those. Then there’s the new dials which probably could have been just in packs but why not just do a whole bunch?

I’ve had some success annoying my opponents with Countdown with a stealth device. Since you can cancel results and take a damage, you don’t lose the SD.

A lot of local players haven’t really played because of the announcement. I’m running a HotAC campaign but I know that once available, we are going to use any 2E components that come in, especially the X-Wing and U-Wing. After 14 waves and a multitude of changes, I can’t really say I want to play X-Wing 1E anymore. It was getting frustrating running into every meta list under the sun with sloppy timing charts and trying to keep track of errata changes. I don’t plan on keeping any 1E stuff except for the alt-art stuff which I plan on framing.

That ship is going to be expensive I’m sure if you pair it with the escape pod for the additional HP. Also kind of miffed that the escape actually has attack dice.

Not a fan of the Genius astromech that allows you to drop or launch bombs after executing a maneuver. While yes, it is unique, and only works if you fully execute (can't bump), not a fan that it'll have ships bombing outside of a phase used for bombing.

I think that’s obviously a pdf digital version, it’s entirely possible they’ve uploaded an old version and the code sets will be packaged with the correct rules. Actually who am I kidding they’re going to have to make a Day 1 patch announcement.

I see myself just sticking to Rebels, Empire, FO, and Resistance. Glad that ships and packs contain everything I’ll need and won’t need to needless buy a Mining Guild TIE. I think they’re tapped out for factions, though.

Epic ships bundled with campaigns and missions would sell for sure. A rebel transport escape campaign, a Tantive IV blockade run campaign, etc.

TheCenturion posted:I’m experimenting with reusing my 1e upgrade card binder sheets for small ship tokens, with little Velcro dots to hold them in. That’s pretty brilliant! I just recently gave my upgrade card binder to my friend who plays a lot of Legion, I could have done that I do have some older sheets that may work that way, it’d definitely help organize and clean up my storage boxes. Although I’m always trying to find ways to reduce what I carry or use.

Finster Dexter posted:Yeah, I played half a game of Whisper w/Grand Inquis before realizing I could use Grand Inquis' force token for dice mods, not just his ability. Force tokens are very nice to have, and honestly, Grand Inquis might be a little on the cheap side for the value he gives. I used him a LOT with Whisper. I thought you could only use the force charges for effects on the card if it’s coming from the card itself? If it’s what you said, holy cow I need to try out putting force users on my ships.

Told my sister, who is super creative and has a business of making crafts for parents and families (multiple cheer teams and sports teams go to her), she should try her hand at making board game accessories. When she asked if people actually spend money on things like little acrylic tokens and customized card displays, I told her that there are people like Curled Paw making nearly 6 figures just in that. Her and I are going to team up and create some X-Wing stuff like customized bags and card sleeves. I have some prototypes made out of cardboard that my sister is measuring for actual construction. She’s pretty gung-ho after I showed her some Etsy pages.

The guy who runs CP was on a podcast and said that his full time job was I believe an engineer and made good money. Eventually CP was doing so well, he started doing it full time, with his wife doing art and design. So yeah the guy is doing really well. Props to him, he makes quality stuff, he made custom templates for our game store, although go figure they came out a few weeks before 2.0 was announced with the lines in the templates.
