From what I've seen a lot of the reviews seem to be from people who just don't like this type of game. Listening to everyone (but Brad) at Giantbomb talk about this game like it's some kind of indecipherable ancient text saddens me. There are a lot of systems in this game but it's not a hard concept to grasp, people!

There's also people approaching this from the (understandable) perspective of not enjoying the first game, seeing this as more of the same instead of refinement, and calling it good.

This is also pretty niche.

e: I really worry about them not being on Steam. The XBone is clearly the lesser console this generation and without the ability to reach the PC's largest install base easily, I fear the game being a dud. I literally didn't even know it was coming out until this past week.

this is one of those Game Pass games right? I still have an active sub for it from Sea of Thieves

those sad live action trailers owned and I liked the first game, looking forward to this one a lot. How is the early game difficulty-wise, pretty rough? Those always make for the best Co-Op games.

Xbone has been kind of weird with its exclusives recently since Halo/Gears petered down. They tend to have very niche exclusives that appeal to small numbers of big fans rather than things like The Last of Us or Uncharted.

Which is a shame because it isn't a bad console, they just have weird development styles.

I died on like the 3rd mission I got and lost my two starting survivors. I was very well prepared/armed too. Other Humans are in no way as weak as you are holy poo poo

But that was a weird cliff I hit. So far I've done ok by sneaking around and playing it safe.

What's the extra content that comes with the Ulitmate edition? Is it worth the extra dosh?

Is this on Gamepass today or Tuesday? I've got like 60 bucks in credit to burn at Gamestop and I'm tempted to grab this but the reviews are giving me pause.

Has anyone ordered a physical copy of the game and got the early access code? I have been trying to move away from entirely digital media but I dont know how the early access would work with amazon.

I saw that quicklook at for some reason they called the first game "incredibly dense and impenetrable" which is confusing because the first game was extremely straight forward.

Speaking of dense and impenetrable, remember how in the first game each outpost required a rucksack left in a container to ensure it generates whatever resource. The way this game words outposts it seems that is not necessary this time.

But I'm too spooked to clean out the gun shop to test. Can I take that last bag of ammo before I drop rediculous influence on this outpost?

Has anyone found out how to radio in other members of your group to a building with you to search it? Or at least your partner? I hope I'm just missing it I seem to remember doing it a lot in Sod1.

Also while I'm here if you got the dlc stuff and want them you can radio in the the gear whenever. They're free and once per save but you have to pay for cars.

You can clear it out, outposts now generate a resource based on the role of the building, they changed it because not all outpost produce gatherable resources; such as extra beds.

Spent the $50, started playing at 10pm last night and finally stopped and went to bed at 5am. Game is good.

Fwiw I greatly enjoyed the first one and this is much more of that, only better.

To answer a previously asked question: the items you get as part of the financialy irresponsible version of the game are definitely nice to have. Better tier melee weapons, military grade ranged weapons, and some decent miscellaneous items like silencers and trauma kits and such. You access them through the supply drop menu via the personal radio (something I didn't realize until I was a few hours in).

GiantBomb put up a QuickLook last night where they spend an hour playing it and they sounded a lot more positive about it.

I'm downloading it now, I was sold at how horrified Ben sounded at the option to execute an infected buddy. I haven't played anything besides shooters for a while, this should be fun to get high and play at night.

The glow is a guide, my friend. Though it falls to you to avert catastrophe, you will never fight alone.
Only got to play a couple hours before work today, but It was neat. A bit of jank, (Oh boy, the doctor survivor you start with has no head but his floating hair) but neat. I'll dive into the real meat of the game soon.

It's different but overall a bit better. There are some small annoyances, like only being able to deposit your rucksacks in a specific room in the base. (No driving trucks full of goods into the parking space for instant transfer) Can't call scavengers in, and there now being consequences all of the sudden for smashing your front door in at a sprint or leaping in through windows. (in that it adds to the 'noise' bar for your base that triggers zombie invasions) Also that you can't help a buddy being grabbed unless you run around to the zombie side of the entanglement to swing.

But there's plenty of improvement too. Skills level up MUCH faster. Max cardio in an evening of running place to place. Speed searching doesn't bring insta hordes, just two zombies at a time. (to start, I assume) The game tells you exactly how many searchable containers are in the building, Combat in general is a bit meatier. Less wild flailing and more deliberate hits that brings down zombies quicker. (But you also better learn that dodge button, cause each zombie hit does more damage than the previous game).

Overall, I like it. And I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the negatives patched out.

Edit: oh, and an important bit. Flipping your car is no longer the end for it. It doesn't auto damage it now and running to the front of the car and facing it now allows you to flip it back upright. (usually right on top of your dopey rear end, but details)

Yo my dude. Park your car in the parking spot, get to the truck, and hover your curser over those rucksacks. On controller it is right trigger, but look at the button prompts to see "TRANSFER TO BASE"

That needs to be inthe op. Ill finish reading your post after I post.

It may not be launching on Steam, but during a stream at PAX the game threw up an error about not being able to connect to Steam. So hopefully that points to the game eventually coming to an actual distribution platform, it's what I'm waiting for at least.

I think I played the first game's story mode for maybe two hours before switching over to Breakdown because the base game was not very hard but the tension of having to get from the RV to finding a car once you hit Breakdown level eight or nine is some PREMIUM stress, and losing a single character was a devastating loss since you could only take a couple with you to the next round
