MY INEVITABLE DEBT posted:lol what about it? an advertisement is going to turn a child into a gambler? like beer ads turn them into alcoholics? maybe not specifically OH NO KIDS SEEING TV ADS but gambling addiction is just as destructively devastating to lives as alcohol addiction so the states that are interested have a lot of ground to work on in that sense if they're gonna do this thing in other words i bet suicide and robbery rates will go up in states that go for it and insufficient help will be provided for the people who can't stop abusing themselves, just like everywhere else

ElwoodCuse posted:Tons of states already have casinos and lotteries and horse racing and keno and it's all heavily advertised and all they do is put disclaimers with 800 numbers for problem gambling hotlines yeah i probably turned on the doom and gloom a little hard, but i live in las vegas and watching your grandmother degenerate from endless keno and slots does that to you (e) and yeah, literally all the casinos do is put out the legally mandated When The Fun Stops brochures on a few tables here and there and wash their hands of the people losing everything in the hopes of a little bit more of that gambling endorphin rush
