The only thing I'd add is that this boss is much easier when you realize you can push some of the blocks he spawns.

My trick for that puzzle was using the magnetic gloves to kill the darknuts on the other side of the pit. Drag 'em in, and the bridge extends, and then you can just hit the switch with your sword, though it's pointless at that point.
