That dinosaur just made the choice to let its prey die a slow and probably painful death when it could've put it out of its misery. Obviously it's not the birth of empathy but the first sadist taking joy in someone else's suffering.

The scene where Hamlet turns into a dragon and Laertes unto a hydra is a bit too over the top. Even if it is faithful to the source material.
