The government of Granby was an oligarchy which abused the powers of their elected office to bully Marvin Heemeyer and run him out of business. Granby's council refused to take responsibility for pushing Heemeyer as far as they did, and exaggerated the threat his Killdozer was to the town. It had a top speed of like 2mph, allowing ample time for evacuation of the targeted buildings. Cops said Heemeyer shot at them, but we all know cops startle easily and see weapons and threats where there are none. The town/state government was even musing the use of anti-tank guided missiles in their downtown area, as if the collateral damage and public endangerment of such an act was no big deal because they had property insurance. Reliance on the insurance money essentially publicly subsidized the councils poor decisions. Granby was a microcosm of the country.
