Says $60 tier for beta 1 access, $35 tier for beta 2 and 3. That chart was made ages ago though and they may change their mind depending on participation. I know people in Alpha with the $60 package despite that requiring a $250+ tier on the chart. $5 probably just gets you the newsletter.

Thanks for the quick response, though I guess I will go back to forgetting this exists for a while.

I've been super casually playing Dark Age of Camelot on the official live servers. This game scratches that old school MMORPG itch perfectly. I just wish the UI was better, the world map is so difficult to see and needs to be able to be scaled for modern day screen resolutions. When DAoC came out CRT monitors were still the norm.

IIRC a lot of packages came with additional free invites for beta 3, but who knows when that will be.

He didn't give very exact information but I remember MJ on stream a few months ago when they first announced the July 4th beta goal, it was something about how the spaces between beta phases will be greatly reduced, not that they're rushing the games beta but since they're way behind they're gonna let beta 3 people in a few weeks into beta 1, etc

I'm sure we have enough goons to help each other out but I also hear rumors that some people keep real life friends and you should bug them first

I have the 110$ "Young Hero" package, which I kickstarted with. It is not on the description of tiers you listed, but I suppose it will more or less be the same as the 120$ "Hero" package.

I stopped logging into the Alpha build a long time ago, so I hope whenever the Beta officially starts I'll notice some definite progress.

I was planning on rolling Arthurian as Vikings have been overdone for the past few years. That being said I could probably be talked into the Tuatha/Celtic side. Gonna main a crafter probably.

Tossed some money at this. Played daoc for years and the premise of this game seems to combine all my favorite stuff the original has. Hopefully it works out and isn't complete poo poo.

Haven't played this game but the first thing I made in Everquest Landmark Alpha 1 was a dollar store version of the 9/11 twin towers.

I didn't realize it at the time but some streamer ran across it and got upset. A fellow goon who was similarly suckered by SOE's scam wised me up about it. Wish I kept a link or something but that video was probably auto deleted off twitch years ago anyway.

I like the forest. No really, it's good. Almost looks like a proper forest and there is ample foliage to hide in or sneak up on someone.

So what's the game play loop in this aside from realm vs realm PVP? Are there intended to be dungeons, instances, open world bosses? I gather there is crafting & resource harvesting but when you aren't at war what's the planned thing one does?

I'm pretty sure roaming in the frontier in a group will be what the players will do. This might not directly have a "purpose", but this is what 99% of the DAoC veterans want the game for. (Well there will be a purpose, farming RP's off course).

Also if Darkness Falls is any indication, the Deep dungeon will require some open world control to get access for your realm. So you'll want to do what's necessary for your realm to gain direct access.

Gathering,Crafting & Building is going to be a big timesink though. And with the better resources being in contested territory a proper escort and defense will be required.

Somehow I hope gathered resources get dropped upon death so there is an extra incentive to go kill the Peons (and protect them)

Makes sense. The reason I ask is because when your primary gaming time is when NA is generally asleep (because Australia) those off hour activities become pretty important.

I'll keep an eye on this.

I mean there are a lot of elements in the design that are appealing. It's simply a question of what to do apart from Main Activity X on a weeknight when most goons are offline.

I'd even say offtime people are very important, because when the main force goes to sleep those structures still require some defense.
Being a Euro myself we have raided countless keeps without any opposition in DAoC.

I have no idea if there will be any sort of invulnerability timers on structures, or that something can be attacked around the clock (I suspect the latter).

Evernoob

DAoC, which is still running, has some of the most dedicated hardcore PVP guilds/groups.
Darkness Falls has never been an issue as it was so easy to unlock.
Once unlocked it was basically never defended because all possible defenders rushed inside the dungeon from their side.
Your' people who are in the zone when you lose control remained inside, it was just impossible to zone back in if you leave/die.

Actually that was when the fun really began : to ambush enemy carebears doing their PVE, and then retreat in the depths of the zone before the clean-up squad finds you.

I remember them saying that harvesting anything above a low carry limit will require the spawning and guarding of a “caravan” of some sort to bring the materials back. I would assume this will also be required for building materials as well, so there should be a fair number of those to gank. Mark mentioned the possibility of farming in one of his talks about the crafter class, so with everything being open to PVP, I would think we could go wreck/steal entire farms.

Here’s a note on the caravans from their wiki: https://camelot.gamepedia.com/Caravans

Best theft I ever pulled off in Archeage was stealing a whole (mostly) laden trade ship while it was being loaded up.

I figured the best thing to do would be to beach it while yelling out in /zone to turn up to my location for free trade packs in 5 minutes. The owners had to watch all their poo poo get stolen one pack at a time by a bunch of vultures. Was good.

Archeage was nife for playing mini farmville and some skirmish pvp over the seas and stealing packs.

Then they completely destroyed the game by making it p2w (those thunderstruck logs from cash shop), countless underworld forests, and that zone to farm for better weapons than the best crafted items.

I loved the class system too.

Don’t forget the cash shop items that increased the odds of a successful regrade.

Reading that design doc with the redacted "****** ******" teaser over and over — and how it was going to change everything for this beta — then finally getting to what it actually is (some RP text around a few focused gameplay tests) was bizarre.

Sorry if I'm making GBS threads up the thread, but don't make the mistake of spending $60 on this, even out of morbid curiosity. There's no game here. Even a bunch of the small stuff in the Beta 1 design doc is missing. This game will never be completed unless it's restarted from scratch and/or Mark Jacobs is removed from the company. It's probably the worst thing I've ever played, including jokes.
