We were riding in the car back from an allergy shot session and listening to it on the radio. My mother said remember this moment and where you are. For some reason I have even though I had no clue why I should at the time.

You know, i love the Cure, but a lot of their stuff is really derivative of other bands. Like this very easily could be a New Order song.

Its like rip offs and more just them wearing their influences on their sleeve. Even though they go back to the mid 70s.

Alvin, Simon and Theodor (do doo da doo) are pretty timeless designs but the Chipettes are very 80s. When ever I encounter the name Brittney I always think of them.

Can't really say it's the best intro, but the best theme song for an 80s cartoon was Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures. :colbert:

Want to see what the state of the art was in computer animation in 1985?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EEY87HAHzk

When the N64 and PSX were on the horizon, a guy I knew tried to tell me all about how polygons were definitely going to be the future of gaming, but I was convinced that nothing would ever supplant hand-drawn animation and sprites and etc.

Silly man.

This computer-animated short film from 1985 was "rendered on a network of 108 Apollo Workstations". It's neat!

My brother and I saved our allowance for months so we could buy the Nintendo package that had Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, and Track and Field in one cartridge along with 2 controllers, a gun and this beauty:

I used to take the fabric off slap bracelets to reveal the metal band that would leave cuts on your arm when you slapped it on. I was the reason they got banned.

When I was searching for pictures to use for that post, it led me to a story of kids doing that a few years ago with slap bracelets they got as a reward for some class project or other, but they were cheap Chinese knockoffs made out of old tape measures that for some reason had drawings of nude ladies on them. Back in my day they were bare metal bands that could have been your window blinds and we liked it that way :colbert:

After Thriller, Graceland is the album I remember earliest being a huge thing.

Speaking of Thriller
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOnqjkJTMaA

This was an event, like TV stations needed excuses to show this video because MTV/Muchmusic were cable so not everyone could afford or even had access to it.

Paula Abdul - Opposites Attract
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xweiQukBM_k
Thanks for Saints Row 4 I discovered I still remember all the lyics to this.

Morris Day and the Time - Jungle Love
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2FPQvwhSDY

Alphaville - Big in Japan
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tl6u2NASUzU
Not to be confused with Tom Wait's Big In Japan

English Beat - Mirror in the Bathroom
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHWrmIzgB5A

Nu Shoez - I can't Wait
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UJ1tBVtYOBc
Probably one of the most 80s randomness videos. There's a dog wearing sunglasses.

Weird Al - Dare to be Stupid
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMhwddNQSWQ
Thing about this, its such a pitch perfect parody of New Wave nerdy side that seemed more prevelent in US bands. Mark Mothersbaugh was shocked at how Weird Al was able to perfect what he'd be working on for nearly a decade at that point.

I know Weird Al is something that went though the 90s and today, but he was certianly the THING when I was a kid. Having Weird Al tapes were just as important as having the newest Gi Joes or Transformers.

I was born in 1991 so my knowledge of the 80s is all second-hand, but the song my mother tells me she remembers being biggest above anything and everything else, when she was about 20, was "Come On Eileen" by Dexys Midnight Runners.

My dad wasn't into music but he was really into American tv shows. He liked The A-Team, Airwolf and The Equalizer but he told me a while ago that the two he felt were most "important" were Hill Street Blues and Miami Vice, the latter of which he claims led to a brief craze for men wearing suit jackets with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows and slip-on shoes with no socks. :D
