The Gillman posted:Oh my no. The best deals are around $1 / GB and then they throttle you after you go over their limit. Everyone changes their prices in lock step so there isn’t much point in switching around unless it’s for deals on phones Weird I have unlimited data and throttling I don't notice at all after 15Gb? Certainly less terrible than it used to be.. Blitter fucked around with this message at 04:36 on Sep 12, 2023 |

There's some music and retro tech adjacent youtubes that I've been enjoying and because I need to share, here's a few: Look Mum No Computer There's so much stuff in Sam's channel, I don't even know where to start. Restoration/salvage of a church organ including turning the whole thing into a midi device? Seemingly endless euro-rack designs, vintage synths, home built synths from the 60's and 70's? How about a life performance using a few imacs running rebirth using a physical midi console he wired up to match the rebirth UI? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjYQwW9hMoI This Museum Is Not Obsolete There's a ton of other stuff he's done with his vintage electronics museum, test gear, a working vintage telephone switch, just .. a lot of interesting tech. Alex Ball Not so much for tear downs but some lovingly made historical videos about a ton of vintage gear, and incredibly good songs and interesting demos of the hardware. Land of the Rising Sound - A Roland Retrospective https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcbpRMZIQ8g&t=21s Last but not least, the algorithm appears to have me figured and started showing me Foleytronics Fx Repair They're a repair shop, and most (well all) of their videos are demos of various items, but some of them are amazing and amusing songs/videos. Matthew McConaughey Playing Kevin’s Arp Axxe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HkQrUJEP30 Hey Dave, Your Arp Odyssey is Done https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiOzrCakLMc (the *look* @ 8min just kills me IDK) Hey Jared, We Got The Beans Off Your Juno-106 But The Fire Sauce Is Really Stuck On There https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbdtbxbVgNU Anyone got any retro tech/music channels they want to share?

Coffee Jones posted:ah ok - I was going to say - an Origin 3000 system is antique - would have been decomissioned long ago Ah memories. Back in the day, in the 90's I was in the server vault with my boss and we were trying to sort out a problem on the Origin cluster, and as a noob with some SunOS and Irix experience but mostly linux, I was poking around trying to sort out what runaway process from the netscape server was dragging the system down this time. I typed killall --help instead of man killall (for whatever reason) and with a whoosh, the whole loving rack immediately powered, leaving my boss and I standing in nearly perfect silence. The look of incredulity on his face was amazing, thankfully it was early morning and there were only a few hundred partially committed orders in the various web stores that it was serving!! God I hated that netscape application server, what a turd that thing was. Also, uh, never make "oh System V 'nixes are generally the same" kind of assumptions especially as root lol. Randalor posted:... but did it fix the problem? It did fix the problem of the runaway processes! It did not fix the problem of my boss regarding me as a noob, and instead confirmed it, and also made for many excellent office jokes about all the things that could be resolved with "just killall" etc etc
