I have no idea if they have a plan or not and even less if it’s a good plan or not.

But I totally support what they’re doing. lovely policies, business practices and ethics need to be pointed out and the people held accountable in the most direct way possible. Who hasn’t been screwed over and fantasized about picketing or protesting a business? I know I have.

I’m certain that he’s fired up by all of the people writing to him telling him they’ve been screwed over by this company.
Again, these people need to be held accountable. That includes business leaders, politicians and anyone else whose job it is to make broad decisions that affect a lot of people. I’m glad he’s using some of his resources to bring the fight directly to them. I hope he shows up at the ceos house if he won’t meet with them at the office.

So, are we talking ALL computers? Or just PCs?

It seems like the old computers were just aping the color of lab equipment like the power supplies and such from the 60s. I have a HP 6113A on my desk from 60-something and the faceplate is the exact same light beige color.

As for PCs, the IBM 5150 came out and set the standard… many of the rest were “clones”. And if you want people to believe your computer is a clone of the 5150 then it better be the same color at least.

Funny enough though, my dad started a tech company in the early 80’s and we had an IBM “Industrial” model pc. It was gray, not beige at all, so I don’t think it was as set in stone as everyone thinks.

But I haven’t done a lick of research so I may be completely off

Agreed, I like GN a lot, but that’s a stupid tweet.

Although I will say that I get that it’s gotta be frustrating when you’re in a sea of YouTube crap and you’re one of the only ones trying to be honest.

You can see their frustration of that one video that was rated mature or whatever by mistake. People build huge businesses around these platforms and are helpless when it comes to affecting change on it or even simple feedback.

My bag is real fancy, made by samsonite. Cost like 50 bucks. It's weird that people can stand watching linus let alone buy a bag from him if he's going to be a shithead about it. Maybe he could say "no warranty because I officially damage every bag before I ship it like it's one-of-a-kind trade show prototype" and people would understand he can't be trusted.

I really try to rein it in as much as I can cause people like what they like and who am I to judge?

But so much this. The guy leans into being an unapologetic doofus and then tries to pivot into someone with integrity and people actually trust him?
ElectroBOOM is a goofball too but at least he owns it, then proves in so many other ways that he’s knowledgeable about his field and cares about accuracy and learning.

I’ll get it out of the way and say:

Good lord… I can’t believe this. It’s just so cynical to your audience. How do people like him after this crap.

I bet that there will be or already is a video of Linus describing his audience as a bunch of drooling idiots who’ll watch whatever he wants them to.

The works of the transistors of the chips, of the fabs, must be destroyed to keep up the price, and this is the saddest, bitterest thing of all. Carloads of GPUs dumped on the ground. The people came for miles to take the cards, but this could not be. How would they buy RTX 3090s at twenty cents a dozen if they could drive out and pick them up? And men with hoses squirt kerosene on the GPUs, and they are angry at the crime, angry at the people who have come to take the cards. A million gamers idles, needing the frame rates - and kerosene sprayed over the golden samples. And the smell of blown capacitors fills the country. Burn GPUs for fuel in the ships. Burn DIMMs to keep warm, it makes a hot fire. Dump monitors in the rivers and place guards along the banks to keep the console players from fishing them out. Brick the processors and bury them, and let the bent pins fall down into the earth.

There is a crime here that goes beyond denunciation. There is a sorrow here that weeping cannot symbolize. There is a failure here that topples all our success. The picking machines, the EUV fabs, the assembly line, and the AIB models. And gamers dying of frame pacing must lose matches because a profit cannot be taken from a mining card. And shoutcasters must fill in the certificate- lost to stutter- because the cards must rot, must be forced to rot. The people come with promo codes to buy GPUs at BestBuy, and the captchas hold them back; they log in to Ebay to get the dumped cards, but the kerosene is sprayed. And they stand still and watch the GPUs get destroyed, listen to the screaming coil whine being silenced in a ditch and covered with thermal paste, watch the mountains of silicon burnt down to a charred pile; and in the eyes of the people there is the failure; and in the eyes of the gamers there is a growing wrath. In the souls of the people the games of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage.

Wow, to each their own I guess. But I love the callout videos so much. Corporations are horrible as moral entities that try to spread and subvert accountability at every turn and they need to be called out on it. Consumers need an advocate and that’s Steve. Think about how many people might have lost out if someone wasn’t promoting this lates asus failure. He even mentions it: Asus would blame AMD and AMD would blame Asus and neither one would provide any kind of help or replacements except for those who were super persistent.

The reviews are also cool. Especially with the over-budgeted marketing depts these companies have

I don’t like Linus at all but this seems like a brilliant move. CEOs and other execs have a fiduciary responsibility and can be held liable for things the company does and doesn’t do. Shareholders have the opposite, the corporate veil shields them from any responsibility except their equity value dropping to zero. If he owns a majority share of the equity, he’s essentially able to have full control putting whoever he wants as execs while having zero responsibility…
feels like a capitalist cheat code.
