When I get poo poo like this it's always been a dodgy ground somewhere.

I actually thought “ground zero” was an intentional pun due to exactly this.

Okay. I was all set to install a new head unit in my '05 Escalade today. I ordered a MVH-2300NEX from Amazon. I went to test fit the unit and saw they actually sent me a MVH-AV251BT. Obviously, this is not cool. But as I look at the units spec-for-spec, they seem identical... what am I missing and is it worth it to return and rebuy, or just put this one in instead? :(
CarPlay and Android Auto appear to be on the 2300 only. Definitely return and get the right one.

E: and more preamp outputs. And support for sirius. And...

Is 4 years old crazy or something? The ones on my car are 4 years old now and still have most of their tread. I only drive ~3k miles a year though. And I put winters on for nearly half the year.
No, but rubber does degrade over time. A quick google suggests definitely replace at 10 years, start having them regularly inspected for damage and signs of age at 5 years, which I'd probably agree with. I drive a bit more than you, but decidedly less than the standard 10-12k per year, and I've definitely replaced tires because of age. Short version: Start thinking about inspecting them more regularly - including, possibly, having a mechanic do so.

I definitely owe a lot of fluid changes to the family cars, but I'm holding off until we actually might start driving them again. I feel your pain.
