King Cuerno
http://www.prowrestlingsheet.com/lucha-underground-king-cuerno-dispute/#.XFtb4M9KjOQ

Cuerno's lawyer posted:

Lucha Underground launched in 2014, a time when there was not a lot of options in the United States in the professional wrestling industry.

Though it is a violation of California law, all of the contracts offered by Defendants contained restrictions that prohibited the professional wrestlers from engaging in their lawful profession.

Since the creation of Lucha Underground, the professional wrestling has improved, and legitimate professional wrestling organizations started offering competitive contracts that did not exist when Lucha Underground was launching.

Specifically, Ring of Honor (ROH) wrestling is offering better contracts than where being offered in 2014. Ring of Honor is a highly respected legitimate wrestling company owed by Sinclair broadcasting. Contracts offered by ROH allow wrestlers to make a living wage.

A new wrestling company, All Elite Wrestling, is owned by a billionaire businessmen Shahid Khan and Tony Khan. They are offering top dollar contracts that allow wrestlers to make a good living working on a full time basis as professional wrestlers and attracting top talent – including talent from the WWE.

WWE is the king of the wrestling industry, and has been for decades. They have shown heightened interest in wrestlers currently working with Lucha Underground, partly due to the new competition posed by All Elite Wrestling and some of their biggest stars looking to jump from WWE to All Elite Wrestling. WWE wrestlers are well paid.

Finally, Impact Wrestling, often considered the #2 company over the last decade, recently was purchased by a Canadian company. The change in ownership has opened up opportunities that did not exist in 2014. Impact Wrestling wrestlers are well paid.

quote:

By contrast, Lucha Underground broadcasts between 22 and 40 television episodes per year, with no live events like the other described wrestling promotions. If a wrestler appears on a show, it is usually just a couple. The payment per episode is usually less than $1,000.

The current contract that wrestlers signed with Lucha Underground require that wrestlers not perform services for other wrestling companies anywhere in the world without Defendants permission, but does not require Defendants to use Plaintiffs in their wrestling-theme television show.

While Plaintiffs are obligated to restrict their trade under the contract (which is illegal), Defendants are not required to use or pay Plaintiffs. Defendants have the option to use Plaintiffs, and IF Defendants use Plaintiffs, Defendants will pay Plaintiffs. IF Defendants chose not to use Plaintiffs, Plaintiffs are prohibited for working for years, are not paid, but still under the restrictive contract until it expires.

Most wrestlers under a Lucha Underground contract make less than $4,000 a year. Wrestlers working for other wrestling promotions make a living wage, usually starting around $50,000 a year and entering either 6 or 7 figures.

Pro Wrestling Sheet posted:

Cuerno claims he’s lost out on thousands of dollars because of this — as well as talks falling through with a company because of his contract — so he wants El Rey and Baba-G to pay up for putative and actual damages.

As you may recall, Ivelisse also recently spoke out against her contract with the company.

Cuerno’s attorney told LuchaCentral.com that there’s another lawsuit his office filed as “a class action to invalidate certain portions of their contracts that we believe are illegal.” The lawyer says there are several wrestlers that have signed onto that lawsuit and others requesting to join.

Swagger thinks they're dead too

Jack Swagger on Wrestling Inc's podcast posted:

In 2018 I was very optimistic about it [returning], but I haven't heard anything since we wrapped in April. It's very cool when it comes around, but sitting around and waiting for it isn't very cool especially when it's just crickets and no one knows.

I was very happy to be a part of season four and I'm still the current Lucha Underground Heavyweight Champion so the line starts here. It's a great place to work but I'm tired sitting around waiting on them.

Impressed by Joey not taking the layup chance to burn the bridge

Joey Ryan on a TNA media call posted:

I feel like for me to be completely free of any contracts and open to negotiate with anybody, there's now no Lucha Underground step that anybody has to take to get me. They can come directly to me and I can negotiate with anybody. There's no restriction. Not only does it open more options for me to go to, but the places I do want to go to now maybe have to dig a little deeper in their pocketbooks because I can literally show up to anywhere at any time.

I loved the product and loved the crew and the producers and writers. I would work there forever, if there was work. The problem is that there is not work. There's really no point to being locked into it when it doesn't even look like anyone's working on season five and I don't know if season five will even happen.

I don't regret it and it gave me some fun segments like the undercover police thing and different kinds of creative juices were flowing for me. I got a lot out of it and I loved the product, crew and cast. If there was work I would stay there forever.

LuchaCentral said LU's recently tried to say he's still under contract to them and they have tried to block him from appearing in ROH

They threatened to send a cease-and-desist to ROH and NWA for Willie Mack too, it's why Mack just dropped the NWA's National title

A lot of work to do. You know. For a company that still says they're ever going to tape again, just not where or when or with whom and also don't keep asking about when they're going to tape again please

...So. This is a new one

https://twitter.com/RealSamAdonis/status/1125206631581736960

Marty the Moth is defending the LU title at an indy show against Corey Graves' brother Sam Adonis

Despite the facts Marty won the belt in last March (aired Sept), it changed hands two different times at the end of those tapings, the show's been dead since, and the real champ is busy with MMA with a fight this week

Absolutely. If anyone hasn't watched the whole way through, there's really no reason not to at this point. Show's dead and it's now entirely free to watch, you can complete the experience (good and bad of it) and not have to subscribe to, or pay, anything to do it

At least watch up through Hell of War in Ultima Lucha Tres. That match is insane and a legit MOTY choice. If you cut it off anywhere, that's a good spot to cut.

That said, S4, as bad as it is in a lot of ways, still has some great wrestling. Daga comes back, Sammy Guevara shows up, there's a fun and stupid gimmick match with Matanza and Mundo, Famous B steals the show again. S4 is unquestionably the worst season of the show but the stuff in the ring is still frequently good. It's just the plotlines, characters, production value etc. that goes down the toilet.

Pretty much

Honestly, now that it's entirely available for free, and it's a dead company, I can't really recommend not powering through. If nothing else than for the full experience

May not be as satisfying as Wrestling Society X by the end, but at least you'd reach the end

I think they were really banking on Season 1 really going places, business-wise. There were tons of problems with even that season. Canned/heavily edited wrestling always does poorly. When your opening match of your first episode is Chavo Guerrero and I can't remember, that really damped a lot of channel flickers interest.

Chavo vs Blue Demon Jr

I thought the very next match after it (aka "Face Sexy Star has a lot of ineffective offense against heel Son of Havoc who's determined to not hurt her because he's a man wrestling a woman, who finally hits A Single Move and beats her clean") was worse personally. At least there were some alright spots between Chavo and Demon, even if that particular matchup didn't work well in the LU format
