I'm gonna start charging for my art on the pain scale depending on how much of a pain in the rear end they were to make.

"Behold my Magnum Opus, a full saltwater pool"

i do something similar, but i only take payment in equivalent pain, so while a small gif might be pulling out one or two fingernails, a larger piece might require permanent scars

as to advertising, i dont know, basically the only advertising i've ever done is post my stuff in the chat thread in cspam which since it is one of the few super active threads in these dying forums has gotten me a decent amount of attention and even a few commissions. so i guess on the internet as a relative unknown with no budget the best way is still to integrate yourself into a pretty vibrant community and hope your stuff gets attention there?

when i post on twitter i rarely @ anyone or # anything with it but maybe i should. the problem is like theres a million people posting #pixel_art or whatever that are making 8 and 16-bit style pixel art rather than MSDOS adventure game backgrounds, so it rarely gets any attention (i can't get pixel dailies to pay attention to my posts so i've given up there).

one of the projects i've been kicking around in my head for a very long time but have only made a few abortive attempts on is to create a series of fictional interpretive centers, like you see in national parks in something like unity or unreal engine. it's probably my strongest "game design" idea but unfortunately i get frustrated trying to do 3d modeling to the point where it's physically uncomfortable to continue working on it.

What do you mean by interpretive centre? An info-kiosk sorta thing?

they're most prevalent west of the rockies but they're usually fairly large museum type things plopped down in the middle of a national park and they have this unique weird mixture of national park scientific institutionalism and roadside tourist attraction atmosphere i'd like to capture

here's a couple of examples from the pnw
