I don't have any of the flagships, but my Romulan was able to grab the Fed Tactical Command Battlecruiser, so the Odyssey should be fine.

New ship acquisition trip report: the tactical variant of the allied pilot escort, in my case the lethean version, is a very solid escort. I've never flown a ship with pilot seating, so that was an interesting experience. Not to my taste, I prefer a slow cruiser, but you can goddamn tap dance with these fuckers and with five tac consoles, a comm tac/pilot seat, a ltcom tac seat, and a ltcom universal (I used it for science to throw a gravity well into the mix because why not when you're this maneuverable), it's a very solid ship. Does have some glitchy visual effects if you run beam arrays on it, though - understandably for a ship with five fore guns, I don't think Cryptic was expecting people to run arrays on these.

The lethean ships are also very unique looking, so there's that, too.

I'm thinking I'll grab the Andorian 3 pack next time there's a sale. Promise of Ferocity and Improved Gravity Well are both top traits.

The great news is there is literally no bad ship in the game. There are less optimal platforms to do hundreds of thousands of DPS, but if you want to play missions and carry red alerts and advanced STFs, you can fly anything you like.

Disco Balls now destroy themselves when within 15 meters of anyone not allowed to click them.

This is worded really poorly - does it mean nullifiers now actively destroy disco balls?

E: Nevermind. Per Borticus, it means disco balls will de spawn if spawned within 15 metres of another one. No more stacking.

Not bad, but a bit thin on Taktik seating. You basically have to use the LtCom Beliebig with a Taktik, which limits your choices for Zeitagent fuckery. It'll still be a good conventional Schlachtschiff I guess.

The really interesting part is 3 Bugwaffen and a whopping 5 Heckwaffen. That's unheard of. You'll either have to broadside or become a Minenleger, which I guess synergies pretty well with the Gamma rep set.

greasythepirate posted:

Listened to P1's latest podcast today with Geko interview. Their new idea to solve dead queues (which they are no longer calling "queues" now, but rather "Task Force Operations") is as follows:

They are creating a "join random queue" option that gives bonus rewards. However, by "random" it really means "fill empty slots in any existing queues". So if dude-bro wants to play a dead queue, he starts it up. Then anyone who picks the "random" option will get slotted into dude-bro's queue until it's full. He said it will work based on first come first serve, so after dude-bro's mission pops, the next guy who has a queue with empty slots will starting getting his slots filled with randos (insert joke here).

He also said that to encourage people going the random route, they will also make sure to include whatever the newest type of marks are into the bonus rewards for going random. So if a new rep comes out and you hate the new queues for it, you can also get those marks by doing the random queues. Also, the fact that they are adding a 6th tier to all existing reps will mean people are going to be playing those old rep queues again, at least for a while.

He also further emphasized that STO will be very DISCO focused going forward. Basically, since it is (currently) the only Trek show on the air, they want to get fans of the show to play the game by letting them play stuff related to the show, and that stuff is going to keep coming out on a regular basis; not just a one time expansion-type release. Of course, the new Picard show might mean they have to take that same stance with content from that era as well, meaning it would be content much closer to STO's actual time period.

I don't hate the random queue idea, but it also seems like a more difficult and worse solution than just having a rotating calendar of featured queue. A good bunch of the old queues are good and fun though, so any action is good I guess. The problem with STO has never been lack of content, it's a lack of any incentive to play that content once you've maxed out reps etc.

The Disco stuff is going to be really hard to write around as Disco hasn't really explained how it fits in the canon quite yet. I would not be shocked at all to find out it's actually happening in yet another parallel universe.

Actually there's a program you can grab on Sourceforge now that will create macros for you. It can be a bit fiddly when you're getting started, but once you're up and running you can do things like have macro keys for all your attack buffs, all your big cooldown alpha strike buffs, your heals etc.
