I actually picked this up again thanks to Moon Slayer's LP and FFXIV being in a bit of a lull in the expac buildup. I ran through the ToS and Disco openings because why not...is there anything more to them once you get to the point of the same Fed missions as everything else, or was that it?

Also debating making a new KDF alt because I have no idea what was going on with the one I have.

I'm also space poor and trying to figure out how in the world to get a T6 Federation ship of some sort..both in terms of affording one and in terms of what to get. I'm not about to pay real money though, which basically leaves me at the mercy of the exchange. The d'Kora someone handed out to me is nice, but it feels weird not being in a federation ship.

And I also need to get better than Tier XII equipment so i stop getting blown up.

Get your reputations to tier 6, spend five of the fleet ship modules it gives you to buy a fleet ship. Every canon ship except the Constitution and NX classes are available this way. The downside is fleet ships don’t come with the console or trait you get from a c-store purchase, and don’t unlock across your account.

For upgrading, save your dilithium and wait for the next Phoenix lockbox weekend event. Buy and open a shitload of Phoenix boxes. If you’re incredibly lucky, you’ll get one that gives you a ship but otherwise you’ll wind up with a bunch of Phoenix tokens you can grind down into Phoenix upgrade kits. These don’t cost dilithium to upgrade your gear and are a very efficient way to upgrade. From there, DON’T USE THEM - save them and wait for an upgrade weekend, where they’ll be even more effective at upgrading your poo poo.

I assume that means having to buy master keys off the exchange then? Or are these boxes different somehow?

Yeah I've already got a few alts from playing the game previously, I had a fed and a klinkrom at 50 when I came back. Admiralty actually unlocks at 52, but not hard to get to. I'll have to go pick up the Sally Ride on my main, I already had the Temporal Ambassador cruiser because I was playing when that content released, so I have the actual ship.

I'll probably wipe out one of my other alts for a Jem'hadar if they're good for admiralty farming. Is there anything else to know about making the most of admiralty? My new main bought all the shuttles she could to help there in addition to the ships from leveling...should I at any point say, buy better ships for EC off the exchange (like, Meshweavers or other "cheap" infinity box ships) and scuttle my old ones to do better at admiralty?

And I did get the free T6 for the anniversary. It might be my loadout but I'm still seeing if its better than my d'Kora for regular use. It feels like it needs cannons, but I need to get different Boffs for cannon skills if so. Not a real hardship of course.

g0del posted:

First off, you don't need different boffs for cannon skills - you can teach the cannon skills to your current boffs.

As for admiralty, other people have covered most of the tips, but here's a few more. The first admiralty mission you do daily in each campaign gives bonus XP, so when you're leveling the admiralty campaigns, always run at least one mission in each every day. After that, you want to focus on the klingon and ferengi campaigns, because finishing the 10th tour of duty mission in each gives you 30k dil. Use shuttles as a poor man's skip, throwing them at non-ToD missions that will definitely fail just to get to the ToD missions. Save your high level admiralty cards for the actual tour of duty missions.

If everything lines up perfectly and you hit both a ferengi and klingon ToD mission daily, you'll get 60k dil every 10 days. Combine that with 2k a day from contraband turnins and you can max out your refining daily without doing anything but admiralty. Realistically, you won't hit both ToD missions daily unless you spend way more time playing than is healthy, but even one a day still gives a decent dil income.

This is fairly mindless work if you have more than a couple of alts, so I recommend having another screen nearby to watch netflix so you don't go insane.

Ah see, I'd put the skills onto different boffs because I've been switching between the two ships. But the T'Pau feels really fragile.

And it's good to know i can dump things like my T0 and T1 ships from my docks and buy yet more shuttles.

I actually found myself hitting the EC cap today, so I bought the Voth Flight Deck Cruiser off the exchange. I know it's a mediocre ship but I'll at least try it after I slowly kit it out. It boosts my admiralty deck if nothing else. I suppose next time that happens I'll start buying some Mk XIII weaponry.

I really want the Voth Palisade Science Vessel, but it's Lobi store only.

The Bastion is pretty great, especially if you just want to fly a Star Destroyer. Kit it out with Sensor-Linked Disruptors and broadside with it.

Yeah, I looked for it on the exchange, 194 million EC. I'd rather spend the Zen on a ship I want more than on the cap increase, for now anyway.

Ironically the base loadout came in handy because my endeavor today was 'Antiproton Damage (Space)' so I just hopped into a deep space encounter with it.

I'm still trying to work out what a good ship is for my FedSci captain. I've used the d'Kora, the T'Pau and the Voth Bastion and none of them seem to click.

Until I max out reps for the fleet ship modules my appealing options are:
Tholian Orb Weaver from the Exchange.
Tactical Escort Retrofit via Upgrade Token from the Exchange
Save up the absurd amount needed to get a Voth Palisade off the exchange (195 million last I checked)

If I did pick up the Orb Weaver it would be pretty easy to also pick up the Meshweaver to get the other piece of the console set for that bonus at least.

Also, which reputation sets are worth getting?

Tholian Orb Weaver T5-U is the best budget sci ship. It is also an excellent sci ship, and with the consoles from the Meshweaver and Tarantula it holds its own against most of the T6 options.

The Meshweaver does not come with a console, but it does unlock Meshweaver frigates for the Tarantula and Recluse.

As for equipment, the ship set from the Temporal Defense rep is what you will want. As for weapons, you want the Krenim mission replay set, the PEP, and the Gravimetric torp from the Dyson rep. Then fill out the rest with lockbox science-based universal consoles and traits. You might also consider the weapon set from the Delta rep.

I'll have to go find the Krenim mission, I might not have gotten to it yet. And I was already grinding Temporal Rep, so that's good.

So I have to ask, is it worth saving the EC to buy a Starship Upgrade Requisition to say, upgrade my Tactical Escort Retrofit or Exploration Cruiser Retrofit if I already have T6 ships but well, want to fly an actual federation ship? Or would I be better served spending that EC buying the Fleet Ship Modules I need over time, and won't get through rep for quite a while?

Should I even bother looking into upgrading ground gear? And are there any mission sets good for the Scryer? It doesn't matter that much, STO is built with the typical pubby in mind and if you're thinking about this kind of stuff you're already ahead of the game. Competitive is the current favored rep set if you're going to go for one, but Iconian used to be popular before Competitive came along.

The rule about weapons is, pick a damage type and stick to it, then stack the hell out of +% damage of that type. These are tactical consoles (check my bit in the first few posts in the thread for details about what consoles go with what damage types), but also some oddballs out there that add bonuses to specific damage types.

Phasers are a fine choice, so if you like those go nuts. Terran phasers are better due to the withering proc being better than the bio-molecular proc, but if you have the 8472 guns and don't want to change, suit yourself.

Regardless, if you're looking for rep stuff to get, make sure to get the assimilated console from Omega rep, the radiant console from Iconian, and maybe (if you have a spare slot or use torpedoes) the ferrofluid console from Terran.

A good point on how the game's built. I've got a ship for every damage type, but that's mostly for endeavours, and my main ship has phasers, I'll probably start swapping tot he terran ones once I hit T6 there. Those tips on consoles to get are helpful though, thanks.

Getting them to flip quality is quite expensive. Don't upgrade weapons you get from those free boxes. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Just... don't.

I'm not talking about the 2 or 3 piece sets with a Rep Weapon, I mean the filler weapons in the set. You're probably better off finding another 2-piece in your damage type or slotting out the last weapon or two with a generic proc.

Meta is to craft MKII $damage weapons with [PEN] and hit them with an Omega Upgrade with a 2x Research boost during an Upgrade Weekend. Toss it in the trash if it doesn't go gold on the first try. I'm like 2 out of 50 for [PEN]. I expect most of those to "brick" and fail to upgrade to gold. Uhhhhhhhhg. (currently researching the [Over] proc)...
