Since the latest expansion dropped, my game now freezes for about five seconds every twenty seconds or so. I have played with graphic settings, but can’t seem to figure out what Cryptic changed that has killed performance so drastically (with this game alone). Anyone have a clue?

There is a sale, and I am thinking about trying one of the allegedly-fun pilot escorts. Which is the best flavor (tac/sci/eng)?

Pioneer42
Jun 8, 2010
I only ask because it looks almost too tac heavy.

Hadn't even looked at the new ones. Thanks for the advice.

Edit: Good grief, Improved Gravity Well looks like a game breaker.

How do all of the new Gamma/Cardy ships stack up?

Pioneer42
Jun 8, 2010
I thought the Guardian was supposed to be the T6 Ambassador.

Anyways, I bought the Andorian science pilot ship a couple weeks ago...and it is almost an entirely new game now. Pilot ships are how all escorts should have been from the beginning.

Yet again more phaser stuff. Is it time to finally switch out my ancient RomPlasma beams, or will the winds eventually blow back that direction?

Spent the evening starting nothing but advanced ground queues. They all filled quickly, and not a single one went by without half the team complaining about how horrible this was. Had a couple quitters after turning the Miner queue into a thirty minute slog.

The Hurq lockbox stuff is out now and I see it’s a science ship. Lots of new science ships since I last played one. I have the Eternal, is it still considered good? Is the Damar even useful with that turn rate?

Tried out the bug summon kit mod and it is actually quite fun to watch them overwhelm and shred some poor soul.

Do ground weapons with healing procs (e.g. fleet, colony, lukari rep, etc) roll often enough to make a difference? Trying to find a little more survivability now that advanced queues can actually pop.

Pioneer42
Jun 8, 2010
Do weapon procs activate before or after the damage from the shot that triggered it (i.e does the shot benefit from a debuff)?

Thanks. Some of the mechanics are really hard to figure out in this game.

So what did you people waste your free t6 rep fleet ship modules on? Is there anything worth getting for free that I won't regret not having the trait and consoles for?

I used some of them to fill out my Admiralty science roster. I'll probably use what's left to fill in my tac/escort holes, when I get finally stop being lazy.

T6F ships are really lackluster against even mid-tier lockbox/lobi/C-store ships. Once you start comparing them to the 31st Century or Cardassian set, they're an outright downgrade.

Ok, by C-store, you mean the C-store only ships (e.g. Odysseys/Vestas, etc)? Well, I'll save a few for the Lukari ship and throw the rest at something else. Maybe the New Orleans or Reliant.

I'm still trying to work out what a good ship is for my FedSci captain. I've used the d'Kora, the T'Pau and the Voth Bastion and none of them seem to click.

Until I max out reps for the fleet ship modules my appealing options are:
Tholian Orb Weaver from the Exchange.
Tactical Escort Retrofit via Upgrade Token from the Exchange
Save up the absurd amount needed to get a Voth Palisade off the exchange (195 million last I checked)

If I did pick up the Orb Weaver it would be pretty easy to also pick up the Meshweaver to get the other piece of the console set for that bonus at least.

Also, which reputation sets are worth getting?

Tholian Orb Weaver T5-U is the best budget sci ship. It is also an excellent sci ship, and with the consoles from the Meshweaver and Tarantula it holds its own against most of the T6 options.

The Meshweaver does not come with a console, but it does unlock Meshweaver frigates for the Tarantula and Recluse.

As for equipment, the ship set from the Temporal Defense rep is what you will want. As for weapons, you want the Krenim mission replay set, the PEP, and the Gravimetric torp from the Dyson rep. Then fill out the rest with lockbox science-based universal consoles and traits. You might also consider the weapon set from the Delta rep.

I'll have to go find the Krenim mission, I might not have gotten to it yet. And I was already grinding Temporal Rep, so that's good.

As for the Nicor...it's ugly.

I should mention that you want the Temp rep set, but with either the Bajor or Solanae deflector for max EPG.

For scihole space magic it's best to rock the Bajor deflector rolled with EPG OR the Colony intervention for more crit along with the Temporal Engines, Temporal Deflector, and pretty much any shield you want. Temporal or Iconian both work.

A popular option for the shield on science ships is the crystal shield, which reduces the need for tactical team.

what's a top tier hangar pet? There's like a billion types and the game doesn't tell you poo poo about them

I don't know how true this is for each type of pet, but the word being spread lately is that according to parses from testing the basic versions of most pets perform better than the advanced or elites due to terrible AI.

A while back it was mostly "go frigates if you can because they live long enough to have an effect, whereas most others just die so fast they're irrelevant", but I don't know if that's still the case.

I think with recent trait additions you can refresh/invuln hanger pets so often that fighters make more sense again for DPS. The issue with rarity for some pets is that the elite versions tend to favor 'upgrading' to weapons with narrower firing arcs, and the AI can't keep up with that.

The N'kaam lends itself to going hard on space magic. Science poo poo is SUPER GOOD right now but it requires some investment. You don't actually have to pay money but you gotta work towards all the bits.

They've added a ridiculous amount of must-have lockbox traits, ship traits, universal consoles, and boff skills over the past few content updates that have buffed the crap out of science while also maximizing eye-burning visuals. And a lot of the newer TFOs rely on swarms of enemies and end up broken if you pop in with a Nebula and spam various types of spore-infused black holes and fire tornadoes. Science is an awesome ride right now, but I'm betting it gets nerfed again because of how trivial it makes all content, and that's saying something for this game.

Ugh. 15,000 Zen for three ships. 5000 each. Bleh. A Tarantula isn't worth that, even though I wanted a tholian ship for ages. And that's not counting the X upgrade.

I remember when the infinity box first dropped. The resulting market crash combined with the issues with the way the "premier" lockbox ships were packaged left the Tarantula and Vonph going for sub-100,000,000 EC. Now they're going for--maybe a billion or so?

So I finally got my big reward box, and now for the selection. It will of course have to be a Constitution class starship. But which to pick: 1) the Temporal Light Cruiser with all the classic/TMP looks, or 2) the MW Disco with the pets and advanced phasers and twelfth console? To those privileged who have either of those already, what are your thoughts?
