The next VIII event (which is either during or right before next fest) is utterly nuts, and turns Quistis from a wheelchair character into the game's premiere mage team support if you get both her glint and her usb.

the next viii draw I think
Basically everything from last fest to next fest is mediocre or bad (with a couple exceptions), and banner 1 of the next VIII event is completely nutso. Laguna chain and a bunch of great stuff for Rinoa, Quistis, and Squall. Even at the BSB level it has Squall BSB2.

Honestly, none of the fest banners are bad. Even though the initial :chloe: reaction to Firion heading up banner 5 is understandable, his new USB actually lets him leverage ice and fire samurai abilities VERY well (95% crit!!!) and brings him a solid niche in the otherwise kinda deserted phys ice scene.

No attack up or enelement on it - and then the Quinoa banner which has has Squall + Laguna will come shortly before or after.
Neither of those are super relevant; a properly designed phys magicite team will be ramming into the atk softcap without need for extra atk from ex mode, and enelement is nice to have but can be supplanted by other additional damage sources (crit, in Firion's case). Even if you strike gold and get both Squall usb2 and Laguna csb, who is your third dps? There aren't a lot of choices, and Firion with usb2 is a stronger option than, say, Ayame with bsb and osb.

1) 5* relics that do not have +res/dmg on them, is there any reason to keep them if I can't combine them? It seems like 6* stuff is better for stat sticking, provided I have enough 6* to round out 5man teams of like 3 samurais or 3 white mage or whatever.
In general, no, but also you shouldn't ever be in a position to actually throw out 5* and above relics. Occasionally the realm synergy will save you on something like an event 260 or a torment. After a certain point you will sell all 3* and almost all 4*, but unless a 5* relic is insanely old and I have tons of better in both the same realm and item type, I don't really ever see the need to throw them out.

2) With magicites, it seems like the only useful ones are the highest level guys, like I'm in 3*s now and it feels like what I will end up doing is just feeding any leveled 2* and 1* guys to 3* (or 4* when I get there) so that i can have 5 magicites that are 3* and give the biggest bonuses
Exactly correct. 1* and 2* magicites are mostly useful for feeding to level 99 3* and above to get them extra stats via the inheritance system.

quote:

3) Is there any reason to worry about maxing a bunch of dampen X element magicites? Since killing things faster is better than taking less damage 99.9% of the time, it seems like I'd always want to roll 5x level 10 +fire damage magicites or whatever (considering a 3* at max level) instead of a mix of dampen and enhance damage.
Yes, holy goddamn yes. There is content in this game where you won't win a damage race, mitigation is the absolute most massively important thing in FFRK. It's helpful in 3* magicites and pretty vital in several 4* unless you massively outgear it. In my VII torment runs this week I ran spell ward and dampen fire/ice/lightning because Jenova SYNTHESIS just does an absolute fuckton of damage and the challenge is not so much doing damage to her but surviving for long enough to deplete her health.

That being said, don't freak out about having more than 1 or at most 2 of a given magicite unless you have a plan for them. 5* magicite will be out soon and that will completely invalidate a lot of lower level sub magicites. The ones you should really be concentrating on are Enkidu, Unicorn, and the imperil magicites, that's honestly all you super need from 3*.

Also please use scarletite/adamantite. You have way more than you'll ever use unless you're a turbowhale. Don't kill yourself using items to upgrade, I've been playing this dumb game for years and haven't done that since my first couple weeks and have never come close to running out.

Edit: Olberic and Primrose are the focus of the collab.

Noel is one of two, MAYBE three ice sharpshooter specialists and has white 4* besides, and also is probably the best physical DPS in XIII realm. He was mediocre before, but both of his USBs are super solid and I don't get why people keep badmouthing him :psyduck:

Honestly, most vets aren't clearing d???s, or are only clearing a few and not getting anywhere near sub-30ing. They are a kind of egregious difficulty level that's more of a long term goal.

like ff6's gogo is one of my favorite final fantasy characters and i was psyched when he was added but he's just straight up bad and i don't think i've ever used him. meanwhile i haven't played a numbered final fantasy game after 7 (and/or tactics) and tidus has practically never left my brute force team since i dived him and got his ultra soul break. you gotta compromise.
With their newest USB from the current VI event, Gogo VI is actually pretty good! They take some doing because mimic is a weird mechanic, and they kinda only work with mage parties because their brave USB increments with black magic and COMBAT (?!?!?! why), but in a mage party Gogo VI is a respectable buffer and triplecast mimicking something like chain firaja or lunatic thunder is actually hilarious.

How is Squall's fire USB? He was purely an ice DPS unit last time I played, and getting his Glint with ice boost armor seems nice for that (I've got his BSB2 already also), but can he hold his own as a fire DPS too now? Also, how does Gilgamesh's fire chain compare to Locke's? I had Locke's already, but he was always an awkward fit and it seems like Gilgamesh's samurai access would let him do more damage on a phys fire team, unless Locke has gotten access to some strong stuff since my break.
Squall is pretty much exactly as good at fire as he is at ice. If you have him dived, feel free to stick him on a phys fire team. Greg's chain is a 2.0 chain and Locke's is a 1.0, so it has a significantly bigger base fire bonus, can be incremented higher, and comes with a party 50% atk buff, so it's preferable unless you really want Locke there for something.

quote:

Is Luneth with his Glint, BSB2, and OSB worth diving?
For general use, probably not. For the III torment if you have excess motes, maybe.

quote:

How is D. Cecil as a dark user now that I've got his arcane overstrike and BSB? My phys dark team is already pretty stacked (Orlandeau with USB, Shadow with BSB, Garland with Chain), so it's hard to see him taking one of those slots, but maybe I'm underestimating that AOSB.
With his USB you could probably slot him in instead of Shadow, but without that it's not worth it.

If a character is dying too quickly compared to everyone else, give them an appropriate major resist accessory (or multi resist if applicable) and chuck some motes and crystal water at them

I'm confused. What meta is there even to crack outside of magicite and torments? Event 260s?

If you make inroads into d??? at all (especially when they add rewards to 10%-40%) you'll have enough rubies for everything, and drawing an AASB for a realm really helps in being able to do enough damage to make some good progress on them.

I'd much rather have 500 HP than 100 MND on healers (just how many ticks of regenga do you NEED with an artifact and mnd boon??), but yeah, I'd say ATK and MAG first for attackers and then HP, with elemental attack a distant third.
