Dishonored 2 launched with some technical issues but even so it wouldn't have sold well. The immersive sim genre was never popular (even the original Deus Ex was a cult hit) and nowadays the era of the semi-linear 15-20 hour 60 dollar game with no multiplayer/online is over.

Who knows how long that'll last since Arkane, just like MachineGames (Wolfenstein), was/has been hiring online programmers since last year. The latest Prey DLC is some twitch-friendly roguelite (? someone can correct me on this) thing and the upcoming Wolfenstein stand alone DLC is based around online co-op.

Observer's gameplay is nothing interesting (it's just walking around while spooky things happen sometimes) but I liked the atmosphere a ton. It's pure grimdark cyberpunk and things remain downbeat all the way through. Rutger Hauer is so tired...

Just finished Bullet Witch. Like many z/b-tier games released last gen (NeverDead being another even if it's a "better" game) it had such a neat concept and it's a shame the end product was so mediocre. Running towards a group of demons while firing a huge broom-machinegun never got old though, too bad about everything else.

Dragon's Crown is a fun game but it became unplayable for me when you had a full party, even if it was AI companions. You couldn't see what the gently caress was going on with all the characters and particle effects on-screen, made even worse by the fact that most of my playtime was spent on the handheld Vita version. I'd assume it's slightly less chaotic on a big screen but I heard the same complaints.
They tried to fix it by patching an arrow over your character or something similar, but it didn't help much.

Finished Dead Rising 4 after playing it on and off for over a year since it came out. Solid C+ game overall. Making Overtime mode (which is what Frank Rising basically is) paid DLC is some incredible Capcom bullshit.

Some of the issues it had are things that have been an annoyance since the first game in the franchise, ie prioritising animations over input like in GTA4-5 and the AssCreed games. Making Frank go through a doorway is insufferable and at times if you jump against a wall he'll randomly stop responding for a couple of seconds until the game catches up on what you're trying to do. Other issues are introduced by 4 - they've removed NPC escort missions and the timer and really haven't added anything; It's Dead Rising lite. Racking up combos and mashing the attack button to kill groups of zombies is still fun, but it's pretty shallow and there isn't much to do unless you like going collectible hunting, which was ok since the game's sense of humour was one of its highlights for me (Frank's VA is pretty good even if it isn't the same person) and the readables are full of that. The game world was generally well made though, even if the mall isn't used much and you spend most of your time outdoors. Getting rid of boss battles was stupid and no matter how many excuses they threw (people getting offended at the stereotypes in 3) I'm 99% sure it was a budget issue since the game felt like it had lower production values than the ones before it, and Capcom coming close to cancelling DR3 back in the day doesn't inspire much confidence, neither does the budget for DR5 getting reportedly cut in half if it hasn't been straight up cancelled by now.

I first heard about SA way back in 2003 or sometime in 2002, whenever either the P-p-p-powerbook saga happened, which was documented in some pseudo-SA site (I think the name started with Z and the motto was "the world's only comedy website"?) I forgot the name of, or that thread about a guy sniffing his sister's panties which was linked in a Friday the 13th fan forum back in the day - which should give newer members and idea of how popular SA was back in the day. I was in my early teens and into Maddox and edgelord humour so naturally after finding it I loved it and spent months reading and re-reading the movie and game reviews. Once I joined the forums I rarely visited the front page and nowadays I never do since I don't find 4chan/4chan-lite humour funny anymore.

What was the deal with this? I recall some years ago people (mainly on the LP sub-forum I think?) killing their accounts over something regarding Lowtax.

I wanna say FF13 but I feel like that's too easy of an answer and that there are bound to be other options that are worse

Almost every game starting from last gen begins with forced 10-30 minute unskippable tutorials or scripted events. Doom 2016 was a blessing even if there's a couple of annoying cutscenes later on.

I remember people on this very forum near the end of last gen around 2012 talking about how next gen consoles weren't necessary because Red Dead Redemption was the pinnacle of video game graphics and they wouldn't look any better nor was better hardware needed for anything.

Also some PSX magazine back in the day where in their letters section someone asked if games would ever look as good as the RE2 CGI cutscenes and the guy replied that it would never happen.

Despite the 60 price tag I had fun with this and still plug in my WiiU to play it every now and then. I like the absurd amount of gore it had and the TPS/melee combo even if it wasn't done too well. Multiplayer was also somewhat entertaining despite the atrocious lag.

The baditude during the first level when that buttrock begins to play is hilarious, too bad it disappears after that.

Finished Sniper Elite 3 and its DLC which was another game whose opening levels I played on release 4 years ago and never touched again until this year. It was basically a low-budget British version of MGSGZ that had a couple of things from it that I liked such as the compact sandbox missions and multiple approaches. Unlike that game though the main character's movement is way too limited - invisible walls everywhere, stiff animations, especially transitions - and of course the equipment/weapons and setting are a ton more grounded and boring, though the main character's voice acting has so much macho posturing that it's hard not to laugh. The x-ray camera is amusing, especially whenever enemy ragdolls glitch up, even if after a while they got old.

It was still pretty decent and it's not like there's many games like it. I bought SE4 on the current Xboner sale so I guess I'll see if they made any improvements.
