Probably the best comedy this season, with a deceptively simple theme: Miyami Chio hates nothing more than standing out. Unfortunately, she's habitually late for school. Being late means getting attention, and that can't happen! In her constant struggle against fate, road work, bikers, weirdos and treachery, Chio must use all the skills video games have taught her and get to school before they close the gate! Yes, this is a full length anime, and yes, it has more action and drama than Game of Thrones, all on the way to school. What's it called? Chio's School Road (Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro) Where is it? Crunchyroll, Fridays. Violence: Only to the deserving. Fan service: Some small stuff. Romance: Haha, no. Miyami Chio - Firmly below average and hates standing out. Always late for school. Chio's way to school is fraught with many dangers. In only two episodes, just a handful of these perils are: Hosokawa - Popular girl who wrongly and foolishly treats Chio as if they're on the same level! Manana - Chio's "friend", ruthless social climber, hater of happiness, love expert! Teethbrusher - An old man! Evil Businessman - Loves mocking the poor! Teacher Man - Will do what's best for his students no matter the cost! Fat Weirdo - A fat weirdo! What does he want?! Luckily, Chio has many special moves with which to vex and circumvent her opponents, such as the Garbage Dive and SWAT Turn/Hide in the bathroom combo! Follow Chio's hard road to triumph and victory on Crunchyroll, Fridays!

I love the little squeak in Manana's voice and how she and Miyami are more buddies than friends, perfectly willing (even eager) to screw each over for a 100 yen bet. The bad girl photo shoot was both hiliarious and precious, and Old People Reacting to the Morning Paper Being Late was amazing, especially the little lady who slowly rolled it up and tried to jam it into Miyami's nose. It's rare with two great comedy shows in the same season, but this and the absolutely bonkers Asobi Asobase really hit the mark!

Kabaddi-senpai's spiritual journey (guided by Homeless Pervert-sensei) to the realization she just wants to grope girls, and Manana immediately ratting out Chio's hiding place, was a powerful combination -- as was Manana and Chio reflexively betraying each other in the end. Still, nothing really beats last episode's Friendship Dance!

Both Asobi Asobase and Chio with the hott BL storylines, and both of them were great -- in Asobi it was the super sticky tape twist, and in Chio the complicated plans to censor the pervy cover. And the narrator explaining the difference between western and Japanese games was amazing: "Western games are usually ridiculously violent, you play an old guy, and the women look like gorillas. In Japanese games, the guys are so pretty everyone outside Japan think they're gay."
