I mean we should do this because in the very long term it's an excellent idea not to be confined to one rock, but it's not an escape from current climate change or any other near- to mid-term crisis. If civilization on Earth goes to poo poo any nascent space colony dies. Even Elon Musk understands space is not an escape from climate change.
